Since things got properly underway, it’s clear that Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have been getting settled in the roles that will likely define the next decade of their careers. While fans have gotten ample opportunity to see the Four in costume now, a recent interaction at an event gave an opportunity to see one of the actors show out in character instead. As reported by Popverse, Quinn was present at Megacon 2025, where he was asked how he felt when he first saw himself in the suit, prompting the star to give a quick-witted answer straight out of Johnny’s playbook. “I’ve got to do some sit-ups,” Quinn responded before going on to give a more robust answer. “I’ve been training a lot for it and all of that stuff, and that was good fun. That was kind of reassuring, and then seeing everyone else in their Lycra was exciting. We were kind of in the tech costume fittings and trying to finesse it, and I was so excited.”
The training has indeed not been in vain, but what also shouldn’t go unnoticed is how naturally the sort of witticisms Johnny Storm would fire off come from Quinn. This is a vital aspect that was fully on display when Chris Evans played the role (arguably as well as or better than his Captain America) and is still to this day one of the best parts of the two films that he was a part of. While the MCU has thrived on giving every character the jester’s hat for the large majority of its existence, the Fantastic Four offers a group dynamic very different from any of the other superteams or odd pairings the franchise has thrown together before now, with a bond closer to Captain America and the Winter Soldier than Iron Man and Thor. Reed has historically been at his most consistent writing-wise with no appreciable sense of humor of his own, and Susan has always had more important things to teach him and accomplish than that. For all his strengths, Ben has never worked as a comedic center in any mature adaptation of The Four and has far more to offer the audience emotionally than that to begin with. Without the sort of easy humor and charm that Quinn has already shown so much of coming from Johnny, the whole affair will be a much darker outing than it needs to be.
There’s a lot riding on the success of Fantastic Four: First Steps, but Quinn’s attitude, as well as that of the rest of the actors in the lead roles, should certainly show fans that they took on the roles for all the right reasons. Viewers will be watching and listening to see how it all plays out when the film premieres, from the action sequences to the CGI and even the centrally important romance aspect the film shares with DC’s Superman. Only time and the box office will tell just how well Marvel Studios has done in bringing the superteam to life, but it’s pretty easy to tell from here that if things go awry, it won’t be Quinn’s (or his co-stars’) fault.
