As Pokemon TCG Pocket continues to expand, new cards and events bring players opportunities to shake up their strategies. With the weeks ahead bringing exciting new events to Pokemon TCG Pocket, competitive players should pay close attention to one in particular.
The month of February has already introduced several new events for Pokemon TCG Pocket, keeping fans returning to try and find coveted cards and build more powerful decks. The Space-Time Smackdown Emblem event has players bringing their most powerful decks to battle, as does the Cresselia EX Drop event. The current Wonder Pick event focusing on Chimchar and Togepi has also provided a way to earn extra cards. But the next upcoming event is one that competitive fans can’t miss. The Darkness Type Mass Outbreak beginning on Feb 21 will give players an opportunity to bolster their decks with some of the most powerful cards in the game.

A Darkness Mass Outbreak Can Even the Pokemon TCG Pocket Playing Field
Taking a cue from the mass outbreaks in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, TCG Pocket will sometimes spotlight a specific type, allowing players to try their hand at rare wonder picks and adding themed cosmetics to the store. Like previous mass outbreaks in Pocket TCG, the Darkness Mass Outbreak will allow players to collect more cards of the featured type. But this time around, the Darkness-type cards might give players a distinct advantage in battles, as Darkness-type decks are currently at the top of the game’s meta.
Why is the Darkness Type So Powerful
Darkness-type cards have hit Pokemon TCG Pocket like a storm. Because the Genetic Apex expansion focused mostly on Generation 1 Pokemon, players didn’t have many Darkness types to choose from. With no EX cards of Darkness-type Pokemon, any decks that could be created around the typing weren’t very powerful in competitive play. Therefore, the Space-Time Smackdown expansion, focusing primarily on Generation 4 Pokemon, is teeming with fearsome dark types new to TCG Pocket, some of which have gained a prominent position among players’ most sought-after cards.
Which Cards to Look Out For During the Mass Outbreak
Because of the power boost that the Darkness type has received, decks containing Darkness-type Pokemon are currently crushing the competition in the game’s meta. It seems that many of the new Darkness-type cards were designed to work in tandem, providing players with an excellent starting point when designing decks. Specifically, the Darkrai EX and Weavile EX cards combine to form an overpowered deck, feeling like a one-two punch during battles. Both cards are easy to play, require relatively little energy to attack, and deal heavy damage if used correctly. With Darkrai EX damaging the opponent every time a Darkness energy is attached to it, and Weavile EX dealing 70 damage to Pokemon that have already been hit, the duo can take down even other EX cards with ease.
Beyond the two ace cards, the Weavile EX / Darkrai EX deck counts on several other dark types to play the role of support. Because Weavile evolves from Sneasel, it must be included for the deck’s gimmick to work properly. Spiritomb is also good for dealing damage to every one of the opposing Pokemon in one move, helping set up Weavile EX’s powerful attack.
All of these cards are expected to be featured in the upcoming Darkness Type Mass Outbreak, which will give players a better-than-average chance to unlock the extra power of the game’s top deck. The rest of the deck is composed of various supporter cards, which can be found in the Space-Time Smackdown booster packs and in the game’s store. With events like the Darkness Mass Outbreak and the addition of a new themed expansion at the end of the month, Pokemon TCG Pocket is on track to become a mainstay for Pokemon fans in the future.
