Summary

  • Pokemon Home players can now obtain Shiny Meltan and Shiny Keldeo.
  • For Shiny Meltan, a complete Kanto Pokedex using Pokemon from Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee will be necessary.
  • To snag Shiny Keldeo, players must catch all Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield and its DLC expansions.

As of February 12, Pokemon Home players can now obtain Shiny Meltan and Shiny Keldeo for their collections, but catching both Mythical critters will not be a simple matter. Obtaining Shiny Meltan and Shiny Keldeo in Pokemon Home will require completing Pokedexes in specific games before they appear as rewards to claim.

Known as the Colt Pokemon, Keldeo first appeared in Pokemon Black and White as a Mythical Pokemon that was only obtainable via code distribution events. Keldeo is the fourth member of the Swords of Justice, which consists of Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion. After learning the move Secret Sword, Keldeo changes to its Resolute Form, which is purely cosmetic. As for Meltan, the Hex Nut Pokemon first appeared in Pokemon GO, followed by Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee. Meltan can evolve into Melmetal, though the process requires Meltan to be in Pokemon GO, along with 400 Meltan Candy. Ergo, Meltan cannot evolve in other Pokemon games.

Pokemon Fans Think Switch 2 is Perfect Opportunity to Revive Spin-Off Series

Pokemon fans take to social media to share their thoughts about how the Nintendo Switch 2 may be the best chance for a spin-off’s return.

Alongside the ongoing Pokemon Home distribution of Enamorus and Manaphy, Pokemon trainers can now obtain their Shiny variants with some effort. As reported by ComicBook, Shiny Meltan and Shiny Keldeo will require Pokemon fans to complete two different regional Pokedexes to claim these rare Mythical Pokemon. For Shiny Meltan, a complete Kanto Pokedex using Pokemon from Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee will be necessary. As for Shiny Keldeo, catching the Colt Pokemon requires catching critters in Pokemon Sword and Shield and its DLC expansions. Trainers must obtain all entries from the Galar, Isle of Armor, and Crown Tundra Pokedexes in Pokemon Home. This will also be the first time trainers can legitimately obtain Keldeo, as it is usually a Shiny-locked Pokemon.

Pokemon Home Reveals Shiny Meltan and Shiny Keldeo Rewards

  • Pokemon Home now rewards players with Shiny Meltan and Shiny Keldeo.
  • Shiny Meltan requires the Kanto Pokedex in Pokemon Home to be finished.
  • Catching Shiny Keldeo requires complete Galar, Isle of Armor, and Crown Tundra Pokedex entries.
  • Trainers can take their time making progress, as no end date is listed.

Kanto’s Pokedex consists of 150 entries, while Galar’s Pokedex requires a staggering total of 400. Adding in the fact that The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra have 210 entries each, this means that 820 Pokemon with the Galar mark are required for Shiny Keldeo. Catching a Pokemon in a different region and transferring it to Pokemon Let’s Go or Pokemon Sword and Shield before sending it to Pokemon Home will not count towards obtaining Shiny Keldeo or Shiny Meltan. Given the number of Pokemon required to catch Keldeo in Pokemon Home, the Colt Pokemon’s reputation as an evasive Mythical Pokemon remains intact.

However, there is no end date for these Pokemon Home Pokedex tracks, so trainers can take their time to catch all the Pokemon they need. Between the ongoing Pokemon Home reward distributions and the upcoming Pokemon Day festivities, the Pokemon franchise is off to a busy start in 2025.
