As you explore Friendship Island in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, you’ll come across pink, ocean-themed treasure chests called Radiant Chests. These won’t open during any of your Island Adventure quests, like the locked chests with the Bubble Wand crafting plans. You’ll need an ocean-themed key to unlock them, which can be obtained from a certain plant in Rainbow Reef.

Where to Find Ocean-Themed Keys
How to Get Coral Keys
Ocean-themed keys, or Coral Keys, can be obtained from the Recycling Plant in Rainbow Reef. If you head northwest from the Comedy Hall, you’ll find the seahorse racing minigame (i.e, some rings circling a statue), and a bit further from there is the Recycling Plant. You can also reach the plant by diving into the water east of the Cozy Islands Mailbox.
To get Coral Keys, you need to recycle Pieces of Trash found in Rainbow Reef. You can find trash near/on the path from Comedy Hall to the Recycling Plant. Trash will respawn every 5 minutes, but you can refresh the respawn by using an Island Bouquet.
There’s no way to determine how many pieces of trash you should recycle to get one Coral Key. Recycling trash can also net you a pouch of Black Dye. To be safe, recycle 10 or more pieces of trash and see if it gets you a Coral Key.
How to Unlock the Recycle Plant
How to Start “Reef Revival” Quest
The Recycling Plant can’t be used until you’ve completed the “Reef Revival” quest. This is unlocked by meeting the following requirements:
- Completing “Comic Relief” and fixing the Mermaidifier.
- Completing “Open the Nature Preserve.”
- Reach level 11 friendship with Hello Kitty.
Once you’ve done all of the above, you can find Keroppi at the pier near Chococat and the Resort Gate. Follow Keroppi into Rainbow Reef and to the Recycling Plant. You’ll then need to pick up 10 pieces of trash to feed to the plant. You may already have 10 pieces, but it doesn’t hurt to collect more.
During the Recycling Plant “tutorial,” you’ll get x1 Coral Spores. These can be planted in empty beds in Rainbow Reef. You can choose the type of coral to grow; each type attracts different fish.
With the Recycling Plant unlocked, you’ll have to keep collecting and recycling the trash in Rainbow Reef. Eventually, you’ll get a Coral Key, but on the downside, Coral Keys can only be used once, meaning you’ll have to get one key for each chest in Island Adventure.

How Many Coral Keys Will You Need?
Most of the Radiant Chests can be found on Friendship Island, but you’ll also find some inside the caverns of Icy Peak and on Cloud Island. Radiant Chests contain recipes and furniture, the latter of which can be placed in cabins for certain visitors.
