The land of Bohemia may appear perfectly civilized, but that veneer of respectability is only skin deep. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you step into the well-worn boots of Henry of Skalitz, a man who must protect his lord Sir Hans Capon while contending with his own challenges.

One of these challenges is the simple act of survival. The fifteenth century wasn’t known for being kind to its contemporaries, and you’ll need to monitor Henry’s needs, such as sleep, hygiene, and hunger. Warhorse’s epic gives you many options to make food, letting you create a variety of meals.
How To Cook Food
There are three different ways to prepare food, the most common of which is referred to simply as cooking. In order to cook, you’ll need to find a campfire or kitchen with a stove. There may be a pot sitting on the flame already filled with food (which you can choose to eat if you’d like), but you want to look for a pan. Once you find it, confirm to begin cooking.
Now you’ll be presented with a menu showing the food that you can use. Select the items you would like to cook, and a short cutscene will play, showing Henry tasting his handiwork, and then the cooked food will be added to your inventory.
Raw meat must be cooked in order for it to be edible. Cooking food will also extend its shelf life, letting you hold onto it longer without the risk of food poisoning.
Cooked food will deliver increased nourishment bonuses, helping satiate Henry’s hunger more effectively. Unfortunately, cooking spots aren’t marked on the map in the same way Smoke Houses and Drying Sheds are. With that being said, you can find them reliably in the taverns or houses of every major town.
How To Smoke Food
If you want your food to take on a deeper flavor, you’ll want to visit the Smoke Houses littered across the world. When you find one, select it to begin. Smoked food will generally offer higher nourishment bonuses than both cooked and dried food, and helps prevent spoiling.
After discovering a Smoke House, it will be permanently marked on your map for future reference.
Just like cooking, using a Smoke House will present you with a menu, showing you the available food in your inventory. Mark the ones you’d like to smoke, then select it to confirm. Henry will grab the items that he’s prepared, and you’ll be ready to continue your journey.
How To Dry Food
Your final option for food prep is drying. Similar to Smoke Houses, Drying Sheds are added to your map when you first encounter them. After entering, locate the drying rack and press X/A to get started.
Once again, you’ll be given a menu showing what is available in your inventory. After selecting what you’d like to dry, hit Square/X to confirm, and Henry will collect his new items.
Unlike cooking and smoking, you can not only dry food, but also herbs like Mint
. These dried ingredients can then be used for alchemy or sold off. Dried food also has a significantly longer shelf life than anything cooked or smoked, although with worse nutritional benefits.
It’s important to note that not every food can be prepared every way. For example, you can’t cook cheese or smoke eggs. When you enter the menu for each preparation spot, you’ll only be shown the items that can be used at that location, regardless of the total amount of food in your inventory.
