Playing as an alcoholic space pirate deserted on a dangerous planet with a rude and unapologetic cyborg sounds like a messy experience. Perhaps it is, but you’ll never find me calling Bulletstorm a bad game, as this fantastic FPS takes Doom’s fast-paced action and combines it with the ridiculously over-the-top violence and witless yapping of Duke Nukem to create one heck of a fun time. It’s one of my favorite shooters, and as Humble now has it at 90% off, now is the ideal time to buy it.
So how did Bulletstorm cement itself as a cult classic? While vibrant and colorful FPS games like Overwatch 2 or High on Life aren’t unusual these days, Bulletstorm’s release back in 2011 came at a time when most shooters were drowning in muddy palettes, MilSim aesthetics, and an overall, lack of variety.
Armed with an armory of firearms and a ‘leash’ for good measure, Bulletstorm prides itself on its high levels of pure carnage. You earn more skill points when pulling off daring kills, so, for example, leashing enemies and pulling them into comically large spikes in precarious places will earn you more currency to upgrade your weapons. It was a breath of fresh air at the time, and to this day, the high-octane action makes it one of the best PC games in my eyes (and yes, I know my glasses are somewhat rose-tinted).
The characters are a big part of what makes Bulletstorm memorable. The vulgar and selfish Grayson Hunt is the protagonist and always has a quip ready, even in the face of serious problems, while Ishi Sato acts as his foil. Sato sustained serious injuries under Hunt’s command, leaving him as a cyborg, and he becomes comedically (not to mention violently) angry at his comrade with only the slightest provocation.

Bulletstorm is unapologetic in its vulgarity, and the Full Clip Edition is a remastered version with improved textures and even some new content – including a chance to play as Duke Nukem in place of Grayson Hunt. It’s a bizarre addition to the game, but it’s fun to watch it unfold. Even the dialogue is changed to reflect the fact that you’re Duke instead of Grayson.
If you’re looking for a ridiculous, adrenaline-inducing FPS that is as subtle as an exploding red barrel, Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition is only $3.99 / £2.99 right now on Humble Bundle. That’s 90% off the usual price for one of the most underrated games I’ve had the experience of playing and one that I think should be in everyone’s library.
You don’t have long to enjoy this flashy shooter, though. This offer expires on Thursday, February 20, 2025, and you don’t want to lose out on such a tasteless, yet gorily fascinating game.
If you enjoy the crassness of Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition during this sale, then you’re in for another treat. A recent port makes the 2011 shooter into one of the best VR games, so you can kick butt in virtual reality. Alternatively, if you’re looking for another option, we’ve got plenty of choices in the best single-player games list.
