Summary

  • Marvel Rivals players who buy tickets to Captain America: Brave New World this weekend will not be gifted a Red Hulk skin.
  • The bundle’s mystery costume will be one that’s already available to buy in-game, not a new addition.
  • The spray and nameplate included in the bundle will also be available to buy via the game’s store.

Marvel Rivals has demonstrated great synergy with the MCU during its first two months, adding skins pulled directly from those fans have seen on the big screen. The release of Captain America: Brave New World this weekend will be the game’s first chance to co-promote alongside a brand new MCU movie, but it seems the Rivals bundle you get for seeing the film at select theaters won’t include what many were expecting.

It was revealed that Rivals players who buy tickets to see Brave New World at participating Regal cinemas will receive a code for exclusive in-game items if they see the movie during its first week. The bundle was advertised as having a spray, a nameplate, and a “mystery costume”. Rivals players jumped to the logical conclusion that the mystery costume will be Red Hulk, but devs have now confirmed that’s not going to be the case.

I have no idea who’s who or what they’re doing.

Miller Ross, who is a part of the Marvel Rivals creator program, attempted to clear up confusion about the bundle with it officially releasing tomorrow. Ross was asked what the costume is exactly, and although marketing rights prevent him from revealing it, although we’ll almost certainly know by this time tomorrow, he confirmed that it’s neither new nor exclusive. It’s a skin that can already be bought in the game. That naturally rules out it being a red skin for Hulk.

You Will Not Be Playing As Red Hulk In Marvel Rivals This Weekend

Whether You Go To See Brave New World Or Not

Not only is the skin included with Brave New World tickets not going to be Red Hulk, but the nameplate and spray that have already been shown off are not exclusive despite what was advertised. Since the promotion is only running at Regal cinemas, Ross was asked whether that means those playing in countries where Regal doesn’t operate will miss out. Apparently not as the bundle will be available to buy for those who can’t get it at Regal or who don’t plan on going to see Brave New World between release day and February 17.

There’s a mix of relief and annoyance among Rivals players. Relief since people who don’t want to see the movie or don’t have access to a Regal cinema now know they won’t be missing out. Annoyance because this has all felt a little bit like a bait and switch. Some players have already bought tickets to see Brave New World, claiming the only reason they did was to make sure they got what were previously advertised as exclusive items.

As for what the mystery costume is going to be, the leading theory is that it will be Captain America’s Galactic Talon skin. Sam Wilson’s Cap’ isn’t in Rivals, and this is the only skin in the game that covers Steve Rogers’ face so you can at least pretend Wilson is in the suit. It might be one of the Hulk’s alternate looks, but again, the Hulk in Rivals won’t be the same one that’s in Brave New World.
