Best Action Manhwa, Ranked

Korean manhwa has capably ventured in to all the genres that anime has popularized, and these action manhwa are just some of the many examples.

Stories featuring OP women and girls stand out because there are so few of them, especially in isekai where female protagonists are most prominently seen in romantic fantasies. However, even when they are overpowered, their strength isn’t the focus of the story; it’s just one part of their character. That’s why there aren’t many manhwa where girls and women dominate the story with their power the way their male counterparts do.

Most people don’t get to choose how they reincarnate, but after an untimely death, god asks the protagonist who she’d like to be in the next life. While she wanted to be the self-insert character in her favorite video game, god made a mistake and reincarnated her as Raina Rubellite, the final boss with great magic power. Instead of the fairy tale life she craved, she must now find a way to live freely while also controlling her immense dark power.

Raina was born with great potential, and she was able to use dark magic from a young age. Even with limited knowledge of her powers, she’s able to do amazing things like heat an entire mansion, grow crops during a blizzard, and instantly vaporize monsters who step into her territory. Due to her incredible power, she’s constantly mistaken for the Demon Lord, and while Raina was meant to be the Demon Lord in the game, she isn’t anymore.

When it comes to video games, a maxed out character will seem OP to a new player, and that’s true even in isekai settings. While playing her favorite game, Joo Se-young is suddenly isekai’d to the world Arcadia after accepting a strange quest. She soon finds out the only way to return home is to complete the Supreme God’s quest and find all the hidden relics. Fortunately, Se-young has retained all of her character’s levels and abilities.

Best Isekai Manhwa With Protagonists Who Are Not OP, Ranked

Overpowered protagonists can get dull quickly, as they rarely face a challenge that stumps them. These isekai manhwa avoid that problem entirely.

In Arcadia, Se-young is a godlike entity herself, and she’s capable of defeating any monster so long as she knows how. She even threatens the Supreme God’s messenger, an angel, because of the absurd quest conditions. She’s a no-nonsense kind of person who isn’t afraid to beat someone up to get her point across, and she has no qualms about using force to get what she wants. This manhwa is like a typical isekai power fantasy.

False Confession

Elviniraz, Renesha, and Cavert from False Confession
  • MyAnimeList Score: 6.89
  • Published: 2019 to Present
  • Genres/Themes: Fantasy, Romance, Isekai, Reincarnation
  • Author: Cooara
  • Illustrator: Haenok

When girls are considered OP in manhwa, they are often in a more supportive role rather than a combative one, focusing on buffs and healing. In this case, Renesha was reincarnated into a new world with an incredible amount of divine power, the fuel behind healing magic. Due to her great healing abilities, she was requested to attend a large military expedition to heal the injured. While fulfilling her duties, she becomes involved with two extraordinary knights.

Obviously, Renesha isn’t OP in the typical sense, and other than her healing, she’s a normal human. However, her divine power is coveted by many, especially amidst a war where there are many casualties. She doesn’t have many feats in the story, but all of them are miracles, like healing everybody in a large area or bringing someone back to life. The story is more focused on the love triangle, but Renesha does have some great moments.

Caught By The Villain

Ignis, Selena, and Letio from Caught By The Villain
  • MyAnimeList Score: 7.24

  • Genres/Themes: Fantasy, Crossdressing, Isekai, Reincarnation
  • Author: Sohee Cha

Overpowered is a relative descriptor, and it depends on what is being compared. In Caught By The Villain, Selena Evans is considered OP because she was a kendo prodigy in her first life, and she’s able to defeat her enemies using her experience as a sword fighter. In comparison to other protagonists, she may not be as powerrful, but for the sake of the story, she might be the strongest character in the manhwa.

In tower manhwa, it’s expected that reaching the top floor would be the end of the story. Unfortunately for Kim Yi-young, it was just the start of another problem. After living through multiple lives as a hunter, Yi-young is reincarnated into a romance novel as the villain, Renee Macias, who is accused of kidnapping the saint. In order to finally return home, she needs to receive a confession from one of the male leads.

As a regressor, Yi-young has many skills and the support of three constellations, which allows her to win almost any fight, and in the world of a romance novel, she’s practically invincible. Due to Renee’s poor position, she needs to put on displays of power to demand. Unfortunately, there aren’t many fight scenes given the nature of the plot, but the few moments Yi-young releases her powers are incredible.

Master Villainess The Invincible!

Dang Haewon Master Villainess the Invincible!
  • MyAnimeList Score: 7.41
  • Published: 2020 to Present
  • Genres/Themes: Action, Fantasy, Isekai, Martial Arts, Villainess
  • Author: Willbright
  • Illustrator: Yooani

When characters are isekai’d into novels, the setting is usually the typical fantasy world, but in this manhwa, the protagonist is transferred to a martial arts world instead. Yeoju is an author just trying to get by, but after an accident, she dies and reincarnates as Haewon Tang, the ultimate villain of a book she once read. In order to avoid death during the story’s plot, she must fix her reputation and become strong enough to protect herself.

Among isekai stories, Master Villainess The Invincible! is a refreshing break from standard fantasy. There’s much more action and fighting in comparison to other shojo manhwa, and it starts to feel like a Murim story with some romance mixed. It’s incredibly dynamic and fun to read, especially because Haewon is a smart protagonist who isn’t afraid to show off her skills.

2

When a character is reincarnated into a novel, they usually have less than optimal circumstances. Luckily, the protagonist is isekai’d into the book she wrote herself. Despite becoming the hated illegitimate child Fiona, she’s optimistic about her situation because Fiona has great latent potential as a mage. Originally, she was meant to become the final boss, but by making slight adjustments to the story, her life can change drastically.

As a result of her actions, Fiona goes to the North and develops her magic abilities instead of remaining in her toxic environment. She’s able to overcome her fear of death and war, and soon becomes an integral part of the northern army, which earns her prestige and status. While they may not be as detailed as an action manhwa, there are quite a few scenes where Fiona is able to flex her magic power and fight strong enemies.

In fantasy manhwa, many overpowered characters have access to a special system. After accidentally buying afterlife insurance, the protagonist is given the opportunity to be reborn in any kind of world she wants, and she chooses to become a child in a romance novel where the stakes are normally low. Unfortunately, the novel she reincarnates in is one known for its cruelty towards its main characters.
