After the surprise announcement during today’s State of Play, I can finally fill you in on Koei Tecmo’s newest addition to the famed Warriors franchise, Warriors: Abyss. Fusing the exhilarating Warriors action with roguelite gameplay, we’re transporting gamers to hell, where they’ll battle thousands of enemies across a fiery landscape of death and devastation! And best news of all, you won’t even have to wait long to play as the game is available today on PS5 and PS4!
Now that the secret is out, let me explain the game’s mechanics.
Warriors action × roguelite
Warriors: Abyss introduces a new way to play a Warriors title by combining the exhilarating feeling of 1 vs. 1,000 action with roguelite elements, such as randomly generated stages and items and enhancing player strength through choices, allowing for a different experience with each playthrough and encouraging countless hours of replayability and fun.
Prepare for electrifying action as you blast away hordes of enemies with spectacular effects, all while navigating stages and executing various strategies. This is the essence of Warriors: Abyss!
Over 16 billion combinations
At the core of the game’s replayability is the inclusion of over 100 unique characters. In Warriors: Abyss, you not only control your chosen hero, but also recruit characters you encounter along the way. After adding a character to your team, you can then utilize the Summoning Heroes action to call upon these allies. You’ll then be able to activate Unique Tactics that significantly enhance your entire team. Each Summoning Heroes action and Unique Tactics has its own distinct characteristics, allowing for countless strategies based on your combinations and chosen actions. Including the character you’re controlling, you can have up to seven active heroes in battle! With the ability to choose seven characters from a pool of 100, the potential battle style combinations exceed an astonishing 16 billion! Try out various combinations and create your very own ultimate party!
Additionally, we plan to regularly release new characters for free after the game’s launch. The first batch will be characters from the Jin kingdom of the Dynasty Warriors series! From the second batch onwards, there might even be characters outside of the Warriors series joining the battle!
The World of “Hell”
The game is set in the terrifying “Hell”, where we introduce a variety of different environments as heroes delve deeper and deeper into the unknown thanks to the guidance of Enma, the King of the Underworld. Inside Hell, the souls of the damned are formidable, so watch out, as you’ll find yourself losing lives over and over again until you develop the best strategies for battling your way out of each level.
The more you play, the quicker you’ll find out that, this game isn’t solely dependent on merely improving your action skills. By changing the combinations of heroes and items, you can discover new strategies to overcome challenging obstacles, which is a key feature of the game. Utilize the diverse strategies that change with each playthrough as you fight your way through Hell and its seemingly countless number of demons!
