With every side quest being unique, the “Troubadours” quest introduces Henry to two bards, George and Michael, who express their love for poetry and task him with finding a lute. Here’s a rundown on how to complete the Troubadours quest, along with a few tips to save players time while completing it.

The “Troubadours” quest has you moving around quite a bit, so it’s best to use the Fast Travel feature or ride a horse, which you can acquire fairly early in the game, to avoid getting ambushed by wolves or bandits.

How To Start The Troubadours Quest

To start this quest, head to the Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn and go to the tavern. At one of the tables, you will find two oddly dressed individuals whom you can approach to start a conversation. George and Michael will talk about the art of poetry and ask Henry to get them a lute. They will inform Henry that the Lute is hanging on the carpenter’s wall in Troskowitz.

Acquiring The Lute From The Carpenter During The Troubadours Quest

Make your way to Troskowitz and head to the location the bards mentioned. The carpenter can be found roaming outside his house, and if you talk to him, he will tell you how he got hold of the lute but will refuse to sell it at any cost. Now, stealing is your only option, so it’s best to change into clothes that make you less conspicuous and wait for nighttime.

Go toward the door and lockpick it, which should be easy. Then, go through the door on your left, and you will find the lute hanging on the wall to your left. Steal it and make your way back outside without causing any noise.

If you are caught stealing, the guards will force you to pay the amount you stole or take the punishment, which diminishes your Reputation and temporarily lowers your stats. With the lute in your possession, you can head back to George and Michael at the Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn.

Before you leave Troskowitz, be sure to visit Butcher Bashka and buy the three Sheep guts he is offering. This will save you quite some time later on and costs less than 0.5 Groschen.

Dealing With The Drunkard During The Troubadours Quest

Upon giving the bards the lute, you will see a cutscene where a drunken man takes the lute and accidentally breaks it. George and Michael will tell you to beat the man for it, but if you pass the Persuasion check, you can avoid fighting. If you fail the check or choose the other option, you will have to engage in a fistfight, and a few punches should make him yield.

The bards will express their disappointment over the broken lute, prompting Henry to suggest fixing the strings. They will suggest that you visit Hunter Vostatek, who lives near Vidlak. If this is your first visit to Hunter Vostatek’s house, you must first complete the Lackey side quest, which involves rescuing the hunter from a pack of wolves and dealing with poachers. You can check out the full walkthrough for the Lackey side quest here.

Once the hunter is back at his house, talk to him about lute strings. He will ask for sheep guts, and if you previously bought them from Butcher Bashka, he will comment on your unusual inventory before making the strings for you.

However, if you didn’t buy them, you must find and kill a sheep to butcher it yourself. You can also pick up the Birds of Prey quest, which involves dealing with more poachers.

Keep in mind that killing any animal will void the “LentTrophy/Achievement.

Paying Off The Debt During Troubadours Quest

Return to George and Michael and inform them about the strings. They will then mention that the innkeeper won’t let them leave due to their debt. Speak with Innkeeper Lawrence to resolve this in one of two ways. You can either pass a speech check and pay 100 Groschen (which can be haggled down), or you can settle the debt by doing their work.

For the latter option, head to the right of the barn and dig out the latrine. Once done, pick up the sacks near the cart and place them inside the barn. You will have to carry a total of eight sacks to complete the job. After completing both tasks, report back to Lawrence to clear the debt. Talk to the bards one final time to trigger a cutscene, marking the completion of the quest.

Unfortunately, there are no rewards or coins earned for completing the Troubadours quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, even if you ask for them.
