HoYoverse has recently revealed that it’s currently looking into buffing old Honkai: Star Rail characters who are considered weaker than some newer ones. Power creep is common in most successful gacha games, so this is excellent news for Honkai: Star Rail players who want to see their old characters remain useful even as new ones are added.

Honkai: Star Rail has been a huge hit since its release in 2023. The free game was downloaded over 20 million times in a single day, and it currently holds an average critic score of 83 on OpenCritic. On January 15, Honkai: Star Rail launched Version 3.0, titled “Paean of Era Nova,” which introduced new 5-star characters such as The Herta and Aglaea.

Rumor: Honkai Star Rail Leak Teases Version 3.3 Characters

A recent leak from Honkai: Star Rail could be hinting at the lineup of featured characters for the sci-fi RPG’s upcoming Version 3.3 update.

HoYoverse recently revealed in a new blog post on HoYoLAB that the studio is currently looking at some players’ difficulties deploying older characters on the battlefield due to them being weaker than newer ones. According to the company, these older characters could be “strengthened” soon. It remains to be seen how this will be done, however, as no details were shared on what exactly will be changed and HoYoverse did not mention a specific timeframe to solve this problem. In any case, the likely effect that this will have is that even outdated characters will be in line with the power levels of newer additions.

Some Old Honkai: Star Rail Characters Could Be Buffed Soon

It’s unlikely that these buffs will happen in Honkai: Star Rail’s Version 3.1, though. Version 3.1 will get a live stream on February 14, and the update is expected later in the month. Unless HoYoverse has been working on buffing the old characters for a while, it’s not likely that these balancing changes will be made by then.

The actual content of 3.1 has not yet been officially confirmed, but several leaks have already indicated some elements of the new update. For instance, one leak showed Divergent Universe Bosses in Honkai: Star Rail 3.1. According to the leaker, several past bosses such as “Borisin Warhead: Hoolay,” “The Giver,” “Cirrus,” and “Wonder Forest’s Banacademic Office Staff” will appear.

Another leak showcased new areas for Honkai: Star Rail’s Version 3.1. Shared by a prominent leaker, the materials included the decorated interior of a palatial area within Amphoreus, as well as other places like a huge crystal atop a pedestal, and an ornate throne. Hopefully, Version 3.1 will be packed with exciting content for fans of the popular F2P gacha role-playing game.
