Having completed the Back in the Saddles quest, you will be tasked to get information off of a bandit by torturing him. By doing so, you will learn that Olda Semine was helping the bandits, and you are given a difficult option to take. Here, we will tell you about the best option to choose from and what the consequences are going to be for each route.

Talk To Hans Capon

Henry talking to Hans Capon about torturing the bandit.

After Von Bergow has tasked you with torturing the prisoner, go and talk to Hans. He is a nobleman, so the idea of torturing someone is giving him second thoughts, but it needs to be done, and he agrees on that part. So, after you are done talking, follow him to reach where the prisoner is being kept.

Make sure not to torture the prisoner too much as he will end up dying. You can rely on your skills to get information out of him.

Once you get there, you will have to interrogate the prisoner. You can ask him about who helped the bandits, where the band is hiding, who is the leader, and whether Istvan is with them. You will get the answers to each question both the hard way and the easy way.

If you don’t want to rely on your skills, the tools are right beside you. So use them and make the prisoner tell you everything. However, make sure you don’t torture him to death. When the interrogation is over you will learn that the bandits have taken over Nebakov and Hans didn’t talk to Jaromir Nebak when you both were there. The one Hans talked to was one of the bandits.

You will also learn that the leader is Jan, Istvan is with them, and Olda Semine helped with the ambush. Upon learning this, you need to talk to Von Bergow, and now you have a choice.

You will lose a lot of reputation with Hans after you have completed the interrogation.

If you are having a hard time interrogating the prisoner and don’t know which choice to go for, you can check our guide on how to interrogate him properly.

Discuss The Findings With Von Bergow

Henry is telling Von Bergow about the information he received from the prisoner.

Now that you have all the answers you need, it is time to talk to Von Bergow. Head over to Von Bergow and talk to him in his chamber. Start by telling him that the bandits have taken over the Nebakov. Following that, tell him that Ishtvan Toth is with them.

However, the important thing is whether you tell him about Old Semine. This part is tricky now, as if you have already told Von Bergow about Olda’s escape from the wedding you may not be able to convince him to forget about it.

So, it is better not to try that. If you tell Von Bergow about Olda Semine’s involvement with the bandits, he will send you, Hans, and some of his army along with Hashek to Semine. This will end up in a bloodbath, but if you choose not to tell Von Bergow about Olda’s involvement and keep him out of all the conversations you have with Von Bergow, you can quickly move on to the next quest, For Victory.

However, if you didn’t keep him out of the conversation before and now don’t tell Von Bergow about Olda’s involvement, the raid on Semine would still happen.

Wait For Hashek

Now you have to wait for Hashek to gather the soldiers, so speak to Hans and wait with him. Once the time has passed, you will be talking to Hashek, so after that, get on your horse and follow the soldiers.

The way to Semine is a pretty long and boring one, but Hashek will keep you company, and you ask him about what happened during the raid. He will tell you everything and how tragic that incident was.

After a while, when the story is finished, you will reach Semine. A cutscene will commence showing Henry, Hans, Hashek, and the rest of the soldiers entering through the gate. After the cutscene is over, you will have to confront Lord Semine.

Now you can stop the massacre from happening at Semine as you have two choices. You can either side with Hashek or you can side with Olda Semine.

Should You Side With Hashek Or Olda Semine

Hashek is threatening the Semines while Henry is trying to reason with him.

If you want to side with Hashek, then a complete massacre will commence. Everyone at Semine will die. You will find Olda hiding on the top floor at Semine. If you let Hashek kill Olda, he will stop the bloodbath and burn the whole estate.

You should side with Olda Semine to prevent the slaughter the madman Hashek wants to commit. However, if you, by any chance, think Olda and all the innocent bystanders deserve to die, you can side with Hashek.

However, if you choose to spare Olda, you must defeat Hashek with only Hans by your side, which is why, if you want to side with Olda Semine, make sure to do so at the start, so you can have more allies by your side.

If you choose to side with Olda Semine, then Hashek will turn against you. So, now you will have to defeat Hashek and his men to save everyone else. The fight won’t be hard, so defeat the enemies.

Make sure not to get sandwiched between two soldiers, as you can’t defend against two enemies at once. So be wary of your surroundings while you are fighting an enemy.

Henry is talking to the Semines after killing Hansek and his soldiers.

Now you have to come up with a plan to trick Von Bergow. Just in a while, you will come up with a plan along with the people you saved. Henry suggests burning down the whole place and that the Semines should fake their death and get away from here. The Semines will agree to the plan.

You can also ask Olda Semine about why he decided to side with the bandits, and he will give you an explanation. After that, you will have to head back to Trosky and, again, it is going to be a pretty boring ride.

Tell Von Bergow About What Happened

Capon and Henry talking to Von Bergow.

After completing one of the most boring rides of your life, head over to Von Bergow and tell him what happened. If you sided with Olda Semine, then lie to him about what went down, and he will believe you. Hashek, who is already dead, will go down as a bad guy. If you don’t want that, you can always confess and that would trigger a cutscene of Henry getting hanged.

If you sided with Hashek, you can tell Von Bergow about how ruthless Hashek was. As the conversation goes on, you will have the choice to condemn the massacre. You can either choose this option or stay silent. That’s up to you.

That is when the quest Necessary Evil will be finished and the next mission, For Victory, will start. However, once you start this quest, your freedom to explore the world will become limited, so before talking to Hans it is better to do the other side quests you wanted to do, like finding Mutt or learning new skills.
