Summary

  • Magnezone and Skarmory deck has the highest win rate in the latest Pokemon TCG meta.
  • Despite its success, the deck is only used by less than one percent of players.
  • Magnezone is proving to be a powerful card in the new Space-Time Smackdown expansion.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’s Space-Time Smackdown has been out for around two weeks now, and the game’s new meta has really started to take shape.

It was clear from the outset that Darkrai ex was going to dominate, and it quickly went on to take seven of the top eight spots at an online tournament. Cresselia ex and Gardevoir also made ripples, but nothing compared to the Dark-type Mythical Pokemon.

There is one deck featuring Magnezone and Skarmory, however, that seems to have flown completely under the radar. It has the highest win rate of any deck in the current meta but is being used by less than one percent of players.

According to data from Limitless TCG, which has tracked the results of 44,846 Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket tournament matches, a Magnezone and Skarmory deck has the highest win rate, sitting at 56.73 percent. This is just above Darkrai ex and Greninja’s 56.72 percent.

Surprisingly, though, despite its impressive record of 215 wins, 162 losses, and two draws, this deck doesn’t see a whole lot of action, with it appearing in only 0.43 percent of matchups.

Despite its impressive record of 215 wins, 162 losses, and two draws, this deck doesn’t see a whole lot of action, with it appearing in only 0.43 percent of matchups.

The deck utilizes Skarmory’s ability to hit for 50 damage on the first turn, plus Magneton’s Volt Charge to ramp up energies to hit opponents hard and fast. The deck often uses Heatran to sweep towards the end of matches to a great degree of success.

While Darkrai is clearly the meta’s golden child, it seems like Magnezone is the real power card. It features in three of Limitless TCG’s current top 10 decks, compared to Darkrai ex, which only features in two.

It’s a card that nobody would have predicted to be so dominant in the early days of Space-Time Smackdown, but we’re here for it.
