One Piece: Oda Introduces A New Race In The Story
A new race is mentioned in One Piece. This race is yet to be seen.
These are the power of Devil Fruits, which have been introduced as early as the very first chapter of One Piece, and of course, Haki, which was introduced around the midpoint of the story. While these are the two main powers, there are some other ones here and there that hold tremendous importance, such as the power of Science. Vegapunk recently created such power using science that he believes them to be the pinnacle of human strength. Similarly, there is yet another unexplored power in One Piece that Oda needs to shed more light on, and that is the power of love.
The Immense Power Of Devil Fruits and Haki In One Piece
- Introduced At The Beginning And Midpoint Respectively
- Became The Two Main Power Systems Of One Piece
The One Piece world has two power systems that shine the most. Of course, out of the two, Devil Fruit is the primary power system, introduced in the story right at the very beginning. Devil Fruits are mystical fruits that grant tremendous power to those who consume them. However, the power offered by Devil Fruits comes at a price. Those who eat Devil Fruits lose their ability to swim, which is very inconvenient. Yet, the power offered by the Devil Fruits almost always outweighs the risks of sinking. Devil fruits come in all shapes and sizes, and they’re most certainly incredibly amazing. Some Devil Fruits offer powers that allow the user to produce things from their bodies, such as the Paramecia types, or transform into animals, such as the Zoan types, or become elements or the forces of nature themselves, such as the Logia types. These Devil Fruits are mighty, to say the least, and although there are certainly some underwhelming ones, most of them offer a great advantage to those who eat them.
To never doubt, that is true strength. — Rayleigh
Similarly, there is the power of Haki in One Piece. Haki was introduced very early in One Piece, but it was only elaborated upon much later. It was Rayleigh who explained the power of Haki to the fans. According to him, Haki is a spiritual power that exists within everyone and can broadly be classified into two types. The Color of Observation is like a sixth sense that helps one to sense things in their surroundings, see incoming attacks in their mind’s eye, tell the true nature of someone, and even gauge power levels. The Color of Arms allows one to use their spirit like armor, and it boosts both their offensive and defensive powers.
A third type of Haki is only found among a certain few, and it is called the Color of the Supreme King. This Haki type allows one to assert their dominance on others, and intimidate them. This intimidation can lead to the enemy passing out if the power difference is great. At an advanced stage, the Color of the Supreme King can be used to coat one’s body, and it increases both offensive and defensive powers.
The Power Of Love In One Piece
The Power Of Love Is Very Real
While Haki and Devil Fruits form the main power systems of the One Piece world, there are others
abilities as well. For instance, there exists the Power of Love in One Piece that is very real but also very confusing at this time. The power of Love has been manifested and used by many characters across the story. Perhaps the best example of the power of love was Kuma finding it in him to move and save Bonney from Egghead. As mentioned by Vegapunk himself, it should’ve been impossible for Kuma to do so, especially because he had lost all free will and was essentially shut down.
The fact that he managed to get to Egghead to save Bonney was a miracle in itself, yet it was a product of love.
Light doesn’t hold a candle compared to the power of love. — Sanji
Similarly, Sanji often relies on the power of love. He broke free of Moria’s orders due to love when he was a penguin zombie, and later, he even stopped a Seraphim in their tracks. Most of all, Sanji destroyed Kizaru’s laser with a single kick, something completely unprecedented, and all this was pinned down to the power of love.
If that wasn’t enough, Garp uses the Fist of Love on many occasions, even hitting Luffy with it on many occasions. Shockingly enough, a fan has previously asked Oda if Garp was able to hurt Luffy because of Haki, but the answer was very different. Here’s what Oda had to say:
In Volume 45, when Garp punched Luffy, why did it work? Was it Haki after all? Or was it “Love”? P.N. Mori-san
Oda: It is “Love” in this case.
Clearly, Garp was able to hurt Luffy because of the power of love, which means there is something more to it than just being a phrase thrown out there.
Will The Power Of Love Actually Be Important?
The Power Of Love Could Grant Unimaginable Strength
The power of love might seem like a ridiculous ability right now, but there’s definitely something more to it. More recently, Oda introduced Scopper Gaban in his story, who calls himself a Minister of Love. Gaban seemingly holds similar power to Roger and Rayleigh, and perhaps all that is down to his power of love. Similarly, Garp rivaled the Pirate King, and that might’ve been made possible by the power of love giving him unimaginable strength. Sanji always powers up and goes beyond his limits when it comes to those he loves, and this seems to be more than just a gag that Oda has introduced in his story.
It is definitely one worth keeping eyes on, and fans simply have to see if Oda will elaborate upon it, especially with the character of Scopper Gaban, or if he will continue to keep it as an inexplicable ability that shows up at random moments and is the difference maker whenever the Straw Hat Pirates are in danger.
Fans will simply have to wait and see what the power of love is all about and if it will truly go on to become an ability of its own later down the line.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1140, is set to be February 23, 2025.
