- The new cards focus on Puppy characters, strengthening Amber/Sapphire decks for aggressive playstyles.
Despite a massive 2024 that saw the release of four sets for the game, Lorcana seems to be slowing it down this year after greatly expanding the card collection. The first set of 2025 will be Archazia’s Island, which is introducing dual-Ink cards to Lorcana – a new type of cards that bear two Ink colors on them, making their addition to decks only possible if players are willing to play those two specific colors. Now, with Archazia’s Island on its way to release in March, Lorcana is sharing new cards, and Game Rant has the privilege to reveal three new cards and their accompanying strategy.
Lorcana started reveals for Archazia’s Island on February 10, and fans will likely get more over the weeks until a few days prior to the release date of the new expansion. Archazia’s Island will also debut two Starter Decks themed around Jafar and Iago in one case and Belle and Beast in the other, with the former being an Amethyst/Steel deck and the latter Ruby/Sapphire. Archazia’s Island also revolves around pets from Disney movies, and the three cards being revealed by Game Rant are the following:
- Perdita – Playful Mother
- Kanine Krunchies
- Pepper – Quick-Thinking Puppy

Disney Lorcana Reveals New Amber/Sapphire Dual Ink Cards, Puppy Strategy
Lorcana‘s upcoming Archazia’s Island will most likely shake up the game in many ways, and dual-Ink cards are a testament to this because they seem stronger than average, but have a deckbuilding restriction built into their color identity. Perdita – Playful Mother is an Amber/Sapphire dual-Ink card that costs 4 and has 1 Strength and 4 Willpower, and it comes with two abilities: Who’s Next? and Don’t Be Afraid. The former makes the player pay 2 less Ink for Puppy characters whenever Perdita quests, and the latter makes all Puppy characters gain Ward.
This is a powerful card that consolidates the Amber/Sapphire Ink color combination as fast, classification-based aggro decks, which is likely to turn the current Amber/Sapphire Hero decks into Puppy decks. Perdita also combos with the Dalmatian Puppy card first introduced in the Into The Inklands expansion, which can be played for free whenever Perdita quests.
It’s worth noting that Perdita – Playful Mother is a Hero character herself, meaning that the card can still find its way into Amber/Sapphire Hero aggro decks if they also feature Puppy characters.
Kanine Krunchies further helps this deck archetype, as it’s an item with a permanent effect that provides all Puppy characters with +1 to their Willpower, making them more durable and harder to remove. This can be pivotal in aggro decks, an archetype that Lorcana‘s 2025 competitive events have already seen plenty of.
Last but not least is Pepper – Quick-Thinking Puppy, which takes typical Sapphire gimmicks into Amber/Sapphire with great success. This is because the In The Nick Of Time ability makes any Puppy that is banished go into the user’s inkwell facedown and exerted, meaning even this otherwise aggro deck can adapt and ramp Ink in order to play more characters each turn. Combining Pepper and Perdita can result in many characters being played in a single turn, provided the player also has access to powerful card-draw engines.
One such card is an Amber staple anyway, though, and that is Rapunzel – Gifted With Healing, which heals up to three damage from a character when entering play, also allowing the user to draw one card per damage healed. This would play very well even in a Puppy-based deck, with Kanine Krunchies increasing the durability of each Puppy, thus making it more likely for Rapunzel to heal three damage and then draw three cards. Even with these three cards alone, Amber/Sapphire seems a much more interesting Ink color combination, and Lorcana‘s new sets for 2025 will likely build on it even more.
