Summary

  • Marvel Rivals players have discovered an account claiming its owner has been playing for almost 2,800 hours.
  • They’re now trying to decide whether it belongs to a dev, a hacker, or if the numbers are bugged.
  • Since Rivals hasn’t been available for 2,800 hours yet, it can’t belong to a regular player.

Marvel Rivals is a little more than two months old and I imagine some of you have racked up some impressive hour counts during that time. None will be more impressive than the account players have been left confused by this week though, discovering someone who has clocked up almost 2,800 hours in the game so far, or at least that’s what the timer that tracks their match time suggests.

The account belongs to an Xbox player who goes by SupertForehead and was discovered by fellow player PuffyEyedOrc, although it has been given mainstream attention, and the chance for more people to figure out what’s going on, by RivalsAssembled. According to the breakdown, SupertForehead has 2749.9 hours of game time in Marvel Rivals, playing 18,106 matches.

That’s equivalent to 14 hours per day, every day since it launched.

That match-to-time ratio works out at around nine to ten minutes per match, which adds up. However, when you work out how many days are in 2749.9 hours is where this all starts to get confusing, and the possibility of this being a real player potentially starts to fall apart. 2749.9 hours equates to 14 and a half days of constant gameplay. It has only been 68 days since Rivals was released.

There’s A Marvel Rivals Account With Almost 2,800 Hours Attributed To It

Dev, Cheater, Or Hacker?

That means even if this mystery player had been playing match after match from the second Rivals launched until now, their total wouldn’t be close to 2,800 hours, particularly when the timer only ticks up when you’re actively playing the game. Some have suggested the game has just been left open the entire time Rivals has been out, and the lack of there still not being enough hours in the day aside, that still wouldn’t work as the player needs to have been playing for their in-game time to keep ticking up.

A leading theory is that the account belongs to someone on the Rivals’ development team. That would certainly make it possible that they’ve been playing for longer than the game has been available as they would have naturally been playing the game before release day. It might even be a shared account that devs use at NetEase, hence the gargantuan amount of hours that have been racked up with someone using it at all times.

Even that seems unlikely, though. One of the other two theories, that either the account belongs to a cheater or the inflated numbers have been caused by a bug, seems more likely. Why someone would want to hack the game to make their numbers higher is unclear, although if they have and the aim was to get everyone talking about them, mission accomplished.
