Berserk Still Going On After Kentaro Miura’s Death

Berserk creator, Kentaro Miura, died in 2021 – he was 54. His death was sudden, and as he was still young, the news left many people shocked, from fans to friends. Since Berserk is an influential series for many artists, several mangaka and artists around the world made their own, small tributes to him.

His death also left the future of the series uncertain. Many fans wanted to see what the author had in mind, while others thought there would be no point in continuing the story without its creator. The last volume containing chapters written by Miura is Volume 41.

After many months, and consulting Miura’s family, Hakusensha decided to resume the manga, now produced by former assistants and apprentices at his studio, Studio Gaga, now led by Koji Mori, an assistant and friend to whom Miura had previously revealed his plans and thoughts about the story. Part of the fandom was happy with this news, but another part still thinks there is no point in doing so.

The series has gone through many hiatuses since then – the team seems to carefully plan the next steps of the manga in order for it to meet the standards of the story. It is also likely that they need to constantly contact the family and get approval for the series to properly continue, and that probably slows things down.

For this reason, keeping up with new chapters might be confusing for fans, as the schedule is not always clear, and the series goes on breaks from time to time.

Berserk: Golden Age is available on Crunchyroll. The 1997 Berserk anime adaptation is on Netflix in a few countries.
