Summary

  • Blackbeard’s mysterious role in One Piece’s Final Saga raises questions about his origin and connection to the Sun God Nika.
  • Speculation suggests Blackbeard may possess a Nika-related Devil Fruit, like the Dark-Dark Fruit, tied to destruction.
  • If Blackbeard is a descendant of Nika, it would explain the D. clan’s diverse morality and his unique position among more heroic characters. (117 characters)

With One Piece pushing further into the Final Saga, fans are finally excited to receive some answers to the burning questions they’ve been asking for years. However, at this point, with huge reveals, like the Ancient Mural of Elbaf and the Harley Texts, it seems like every new revelation introduced doubles the number of questions the community has. This includes a hugely important character in the series, who seemingly lacks a place within all the new revelations presented in One Piece’s Elbaf Arc so far.

This character, the notorious Emperor of the Sea, Blackbeard, is one of the series’ most mysterious characters thus far. With little known about his origin or primary plan, Blackbeard’s place in the Final Saga of One Piece is currently only up to speculation. However, some fans believe that the character could be a direct descendant of the Sun God Nika, acting as one of the Sun God’s halves, opposite of Luffy.

One Piece’s Sun God Nika Has Multiple Sides

A Side Of Liberation And A Side Of Destruction

In the modern story of One Piece, specifically during the Elbaf Arc, fans were introduced to the Kingdom of Elbaf’s interpretation of the Sun God Nika. Specifically, the society of the giants has many different beliefs surrounding the figure. While some believe that Nika is a God of joy and liberation, others feel that Nika is a God of destruction. Of course, from here, many fans have speculated that, due to the many split beliefs of the God Nika, there may be more than one true Sun God Nika Devil Fruit; one that is a representation of liberation and one that is a representation of destruction.

And I’ll be the king! Blackbeard Kingdom! How does that sound? – Blackbeard

As for Blackbeard, the character has been obsessed with collecting powerful Devil Fruits in One Piece, in order to accomplish his master plan in the series. Additionally, much like Luffy’s Devil Fruit, Blackbeard seemed strangely drawn to the Dark-Dark Fruit in One Piece, even going as far as to murder a fellow crewmate over it. From here, many fans have found the character, who can use multiple Devil Fruits, to have a strange place in the One Piece world, especially when it comes to Devil Fruits.

The Dark-Dark Fruit Could Have A Unique Awakening

  • Nika Could Be Related To The Dark-Dark Fruit
  • The D. Clan Could Also Relate Back To Nika

While many figures believe that this theorized second Sun God Nika Devil Fruit belongs to Loki, it is equally possible that a character such as Blackbeard already possesses the alternate fruit. In this intense, many fans already believe that the Dark-Dark Fruit, when awakened, may reveal itself to be the form of the Sun God Nika, similar to Luffy, that represents destruction. However, this idea goes even further than this concept as well.

One Piece: This Small Detail Shows How Much Franky Cares About Robin

One of One Piece’s newest chapters reveals just how much Franky respects Robin.

Being a member of the D. clan, Blackbeard has always been the odd one out of the group. Acting very differently from the generally heroic and honest members of the clan, the One Piece Emperor, Blackbeard, oftentimes feels as if he shouldn’t be a member of the group at all. However, if the D. clan members are descendants of the Sun God Nika, whether metaphorically or literally, Blackbeard’s place in the group, as well as the entire dynamic of the group, would make far more sense.

This Would Explain His Interesting Position Among More Heroic Characters

Overall, if Blackbeard and the other D. clan members were the descendants of Nika, it would explain the varied morality of the group features. The group features both characters that follow the ideas of Nika’s two halves; liberation, with characters like Luffy and Ace, or destruction, with characters like Blackbeard. These two halves of the D. clan would perfectly echo the two sides that the Elbaf giants have revealed so far.

A man’s dream will never die! – Blackbeard

However, as of now, this theory has very little information to support it, outside the idea that One Piece’s Nika has two halves. Still, despite the problems, Blackbeard being a descendant of Nika would be an interesting way to make him a direct parallel to Luffy in the story, as well as put him in an interesting place for the end of the series. In the end, no matter what Blackbeard’s role in One Piece’s Final Saga is, Oda is bound to create something that will surprise fans.
