Rocket Raccoon blazes his way into Marvel Rivals, bringing his snarky and brash attitude to win the day and maybe “borrowing” some things that aren’t nailed down. Armed with his trusty gatling gun which doubles as a healing device and a host of other gadgets to support his team.
Rocket is a Strategist with some powerful abilities that can turn the tide of a winning battle to his favor. This guide will provide all you’ll need to know on how to reduce his overall effectiveness. Including what to expect when facing him and the most effective heroes that counter him.
How To Counter Rocket Raccoon
Rocket is a tricky target to hit thanks to his high mobility and very small hitbox. Using his Jetpack Dash to both avoid damage and get to any of his desired positions with ease. The strongest tool in his kit is his B.R.B. relay, which provides armor packs to his team and revives a single fallen ally.
Countering him effectively will require you to focus on disabling his ability to escape as well as destroying his B.R.B. relay. Heroes with Crowd Control (CC) and the ability to get into the enemy’s backline are best suited for this.
How To Counter Rocket Raccoon As A Strategist
Whilst not the most ideal class for dealing with a Rocket Raccoon, there are situations where a Strategist can help out. Using Strategist heroes with CC abilities to lock Rocket in place and calling out to allies can make dealing with him much easier. Additionally, calling out the location of the B.R.B relay, so your team can destroy it.
Mantis is a perfect pick due to her Spore Slumber ability, which will throw a small area of effect (AOE) grenade that will stun Rocket and prevent him from escaping. Landing the ability is relatively easier compared to other CC such as Luna Snow’s Absolute Zero, which requires more accuracy. If there are no allies nearby to kill the Rocket, Mantis’ primary fire still deals great damage and can easily kill him with little issue.
Invisible Woman is also a great pick as she has two abilities that restrict movement, making it easier to eliminate Rocket. Psionic Vortex fires an AOE orb that, upon detonation, creates a small vortex that damages and slows enemies caught in the radius. Her second ability, Force Physics, creates a beam like attack with the ability to push or pull enemies caught in the attack.
As Invisible Woman, be sure to use the Force Physics pull at the end of Rocket’s Jetpack Dash for a more consistent pull.
How To Counter Rocket Raccoon As A Duelist
As a Duelist, your main priority against Rocket is eliminating both him and his B.R.B. relay. As previously stated, Rocket is very elusive and a difficult target to hit, making heroes that require more accuracy to struggle. Instead, opt to pick heroes that can get in close and chase him down effectively.
Iron Fist is the most effective hero for dealing with Rocket. He can get into the backline easily thanks to his movement abilities Wall Runner and Crane Leap. Iron Fist’s primary attack will pull him towards his target, which will make Rocket’s attempts at escape ultimately futile.
Spider-Man can also be very useful, as he, too, can get into the backline quickly with his Web-Swing. Though in order to kill Rocket, you will need to perform Spider-Man’s one-shot combo, which can be done by shooting a Cyber-Web Cluster onto your desired target, then pulling yourself towards them with Get Over Here! Afterward, follow up with another Cyber-Web Cluster and immediately uppercut using Amazing Combo to finish him off.
Be sure to practice Spider-Man’s one-shot combo in the practice range before attempting it against players.
How To Counter Rocket Raccoon As A Vanguard
There aren’t many Vanguards that can keep up with Rocket’s quick movement. Make use of heroes with CC abilities to lock him in place and deal as much damage as possible to force him to use his abilities.
Peni Parker is best suited when facing a Rocket due to her ability to lock an area down using her Bionic Spider-Nest. Cyber-Web Snare fires a web with a large hitbox that, when connected to an enemy, will restrict their movement for a short period. Arachno-Mine drops an explosive device that, when triggered, will deal moderate damage and can be set on any surface.
Venom can be used against Rocket as he can get into the backline similarly to Spider-Man. Use Frenzied Arrival whilst in the air to slam down and launch enemies into the air before quickly following up with Cellular Corrosion, which will slow them down, allowing for follow-up attacks.
Placing multiple Arachno-Mines on top of each other can lead to an instant kill when detonated. Place them in positions where you can expect Rocket such as high ground or near doorways.
