For Disney Dreamlight Valley, 2025 is a Year of Nostalgia

As yet another year begins, players have cause to wonder what will be added to Disney Dreamlight Valley in 2025. Fortunately, Gameloft revealed a base game roadmap for Disney Dreamlight Valley’s upcoming year back in November 2024. While none of these plans have been added to the game so far, it’s clear that Gameloft and Disney will finally be adding some much-needed classic content to Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Not only will 2025’s character additions be fun for Disney Dreamlight Valley players, they will expand the scope of the game so far. Despite its early access launch in 2022, Disney Dreamlight Valley has put part of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ canon on the back burner. If Gameloft and Disney stick to the released 2025 base game roadmap, Disney Dreamlight Valley’s character roster will expand into this underutilized territory.

Disney Dreamlight Valley seems to have misplaced a few items from Scrooge McDuck’s store and players are concerned over the implications.

Disney Dreamlight Valley’s 2025 Roadmap Hints at Classic Characters

As of writing, there are only two characters on Disney Dreamlight Valley’s character roster that are not from Pixar Studios and were added to the Disney canon prior to the Disney Renaissance. The Disney Renaissance was kicked off with the release of The Little Mermaid in 1989, which revitalized the company after a dark period. All but two characters on Disney Dreamlight Valley’s current character roster are either from Pixar or are from films and franchises from 1989 and onward.

But 2025 will likely more than double the number of old characters on Disney Dreamlight Valley’s roster. The only confirmed 2025 villager addition that fits in this box is Maleficent, who will join Disney Dreamlight Valley this summer in the second chapter of the Storybook Vale Expansion Pass. Maleficent will join the game with one other character, who has yet to be revealed by Gameloft. However, players are speculating that this character will be Aurora, also from Sleeping Beauty, considering the references to a “missing princess.”

The aforementioned 2025 base game roadmap suggests that characters from two films from Disney’s Silver Age will be added to Disney Dreamlight Valley. Spring 2025’s image shows Alice in Wonderland’s Cheshire Cat, hiding in the shadows of a tree with his iconic eerie smile stretched across his face. Summer 2025’s image depicts Skull Rock, which is already present in Disney Dreamlight Valley. However, the caption informs players that they will “discover who is waiting inside Skull Rock,” suggesting that a character from Peter Pan could be waiting for them.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Should Add Classic Content to Prep for these Iconic Characters

Though the exact characters that will be added in these updates have yet to be revealed, it’s clear that Disney Dreamlight Valley is finally exploring the earlier years of Walt Disney Animation Studios. Based on items that have been added to Disney Dreamlight Valley alongside character additions in the past, it would be unsurprising to see classic content join the game through other avenues.

Using the upcoming untitled update’s Star Path as a gateway for items from older films could be one way Disney Dreamlight Valley prepares for 2025’s character additions. While the game’s character roster may be lacking in content from earlier Walt Disney Animation Studios films, there are plenty of references to these films in motifs, furniture, clothing, and other items, already in the game. Nevertheless, adding more Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan items specifically would be a great way to drum up excitement among Disney Dreamlight Valley’s playerbase.

However, if Disney Dreamlight Valley decides to use the next Star Path to add these items, it will have to remain thematically relevant to its update. While the name and date of the update is still unknown, many players expect it will add Jasmine and Aladdin to the game. Jafar was added to Disney Dreamlight Valley in the A Rift in Time Expansion Pass in Summer 2024 and both characters were once again teased in 2025’s roadmap. While players will have plenty of classic characters added to the game, if Disney Dreamlight Valley wants to make 2025 the year of early Disney, it has to carefully incorporate this early update into the mix.
