Though the Nintendo Switch 2 has been officially revealed, fans still need to wait nearly two months before they see a full breakdown of Nintendo’s next console, and presumably, a tease of what games can be expected to launch alongside it. In the meantime, fans only have rumors and leaks to go on, and there hasn’t been a shortage. A lot of recent Switch 2 rumors revolve around the console’s possible third-party support, and Bethesda has been at the forefront of some of those rumors.
Bethesda was a fairly avid supporter of the first Nintendo Switch, especially during its first year on the market. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim played a major role in the Switch’s initial marketing, and both Doom (2016) and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus were ported within the Switch’s first year or so. Bethesda has been acquired by Microsoft since then, but there are plenty of recent rumors that suggest Microsoft (and Bethesda by proxy) will support the Switch 2 in a big way. But while huge games like Starfield, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Doom: The Dark Ages have all been rumored to appear on the Nintendo Switch 2, the perfect launch title might be an earlier Bethesda release.

Despite Bethesda being such a prominent third-party supporter of the first Nintendo Switch, there has never been a mainline Fallout game on a Nintendo console. The only Fallout experience available on a Nintendo platform is Fallout Shelter on the Switch, a free-to-play mobile game that sees players creating and managing their very own Fallout Vault.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launch-line up has the opportunity to make history by including a port of a mainline Fallout game. And the best option might be Fallout 4.
Fallout 4 Is The Right Entry for The Switch 2
While Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are arguably just as popular as Fallout 4, if not even more so to some fans, the latter would probably be the best option for the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch line-up. Being the latest mainline entry in the series, Fallout 4 offers the most modern visuals, gameplay mechanics, and quality-of-life features. As such, Fallout 4 is arguably the most approachable entry in the franchise for newcomers, which goes hand-in-hand with the Nintendo Switch 2’s target demographic.
Fallout 4 Would Be a Good Benchmark for The Switch 2
Fallout 4 turns 10-years-old this year, so it wouldn’t be the freshest game on the Switch 2’s launch line-up. But Fallout 4 is still a massive open-world game with a wealth of content, and that’s always impressive to see on a handheld console.
Fallout 4 also received a next-gen update last year that upgraded the game’s visuals and performance. If the Nintendo Switch 2’s hypothetical port of Fallout 4 included these next-gen upgrades, then it would act as a great showcase of just how much of an improvement the Switch 2’s hardware is over its predecessor.
