Where to Learn New Melee Combos in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Where to Learn New Melee Combos in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Being a sequel and all, Henry carries over most of his combat experience from the first game into Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. He’s not as clueless with a sword as he once was in the first game, but given his circumstances, he’ll need to relearn most of his techniques again during his new adventure.

By default, players can engage in melee combat to a decent degree, but if you want to improve Henry’s skills, you’ll need to find someone who can teach him how to swing his weapons better. Combat in KCD2 is deceptively complex, and if you want to win every battle you face, you need to add some new moves to your repertoire.

Two-handed swords are heavier and deal more damage than one-handed swords in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2; here’s where to get one for free early on.

How to Learn Melee Combos in KCD2

Combos list in KCD2

Swinging your sword around won’t be enough to win against dangerous foes. By using melee combos, you’ll be able to tire enemies out more quickly and maybe land a hit or two. However, you need to unlock these combos first by learning from a suitable master.

There are a number of weapon masters in the game, and while some may teach you for free, others won’t be as generous. Here are the combat masters we’ve found in the Trosky region so far:

  • Master Tomcat in the Nomad Camp teaches swordsmanship.
  • Barnaby north of Trosky Castle is a master brawler.
  • Captain Gnarly in Semine is an instructor on a variety of weapons.
  • Black Bartosch inside Trosky Castle is an expert on various weapons as well.

You’ll come across more masters as you proceed through the game.

Sword Combos

Tomcat from the Nomad Camp can teach players how to perform Master Strikes in KCD2 for free, but only after beating him in battle. He’ll also teach players various weapon combos for a price. You can find him near the camp’s combat arena, and he’s usually eager to fight at any time.

Unarmed Combos

The herbalist Barnaby is Trosky’s grandmaster of hand-to-hand combat, but if you want to learn combos from him, you need to follow a chain of quests that starts in Zhelejov. This is going to take a bit of time, though.

  1. First, speak with Lawrence at the Zhelejov Wagoner’s Inn, and talk to him about some fights. This will start the Wine, Women and Blood quest.
  2. Finish KCD2’s Materia Prima quest from Miller Kreyzl at the Lower Semine Mill to unlock the Melee at the Mill quest.
  3. After Melee at the Mill, speak with Miller Kreyzl again to start the Best for Last quest, which will lead you to Barnaby.
  4. Beat Barnaby in a fistfight.

Various Weapon Combos

Captain Gnarly, the elderly guardsman of the Semine garrison, can teach you some combos for longswords, polearms, and heavy weapons once you’ve met his acquaintance. You’ll first meet him while doing The Jaunt quest, which is part of the Wedding Crashers quest. He’s usually near the combat arena past the stables, though he does tend to roam about the courtyard area.

Like all combat masters, you can find them on the map, represented by a Skill Teacher icon.

Black Bartosch in KCD2

Once you finish the Wedding Crashers and For Whom The Bell Tolls quests, you’ll gain access to Trosky Castle, which also means you can walk up to Black Bartosch and ask him for lessons. Much like Gnarly, he’ll teach you techniques for all weapon types. Much like the other masters, you can request a training fight from Bartosch. Doing so is a good way to earn some Strength XP in KCD2. Try not to sustain too much damage, though.
