Popular Twitch streamer Tyler1 has apparently quit his guild and will no longer be playing World of Warcraft. The online personality has been around since 2014, when he reached Challenger rank, the highest possible, in Riot Games’ League of Legends. Tyler1 became incredibly successful on Twitch, where he currently has nearly 5.5 million followers and enjoys a range of games, including World of Warcraft.

For the past few months, Tyler1 has been playing World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore, a variant of the game that disables resurrection upon death. The content creator is part of the guild OnlyFangs, comprised only of Twitch streamers, and the group recently reached Molten Core, a level 60, 40-man instance that is the ultimate challenge for WoW Classic players. For its second run through the dungeon, OnlyFangs chose its guild warchief, Tyler1, as main tank and raid leader.

Initially, the run through World of Warcraft Classic‘s Molten Core was going very smoothly, with no casualties. However, upon taking on the sixth boss, Baron Geddon, things went sideways and several raid members died, including Tyler1’s warrior Tonkatonk. The content creator was understandably upset and blamed the disaster on players not following his orders and ultimately leaving him and others to die. Though many people hope that Tyler1’s decision was made in haste and that he will change his mind, the streamer quit the guild and announced that he will no longer be playing WoW. As for his fellow guild members, “There’s like a handful that are good ones,” Tyler1 said.

What Happened in OnlyFangs’ Second Molten Core Run?

Early during OnlyFangs’ fight with Baron Geddon, the giant fire elemental wasn’t positioned in the ideal location, though this wouldn’t have been a problem if other things hadn’t also gone wrong. Baron has an ability called Inferno, which pulses eight times and does increasing damage with each wave. Everybody, including the tank, runs out of range to avoid the last few pulses.

A premature call by Tyler1 to move back towards the boss during his Inferno caused widespread damage to raid members and drained healers’ mana. This perhaps shook confidence in the group, so when the fire elemental was at 5 percent health, some people ignored Tyler1’s unorthodox call to “finish him” and instead ran away in anticipation of Baron Geddon’s next fiery Inferno. However, others listened to the call and stayed to burst the mob down. The divided focus resulted in four people dying, including Tyler1’s Tonkatonk. This occurred in conjunction with another Baron ability called Living Bomb, usually survivable, which in the chaos took out three more raiders.

In WoW Classic Hardcore, this is particularly devastating because a defeated character is permanently dead. It is incredibly difficult to level to 60 without dying, while also gearing up for raids and learning the mechanics of a character well enough to be useful. It’s a commitment of potentially hundreds of hours. And many players, including apparently Tyler1, are not enthusiastic about the prospect of starting over, especially if they feel their character’s death was the fault of others.
