The Survival Horror Movie The Nowhere Game Is Great For The Forest Players
Deadline reported that Mckenna Grace and Kiernan Shipka are starring in the survival horror movie The Nowhere Game. Written by Alex Pototsky and directed by Justin Douglas Powell and David Charbonier, Allie (Shipka) and Carin (Grace) are on a road trip when they are kidnapped and forced to fend for themselves in the forest. When compared to several Blumhouse horror villains or mysterious villains who aren’t easy to figure out, someone who would force two young people into the woods is definitely diabolical and evil.
Players of The Forest, which was released in 2014, are used to this kind of scenario, and so this story will definitely appeal to them. As co-founder of Endnight Games Ben Falcone told Gaming Bolt about the memorable survival video game The Forest:
“From a story point of view, we’re aiming more for a situation. If in real life you were thrown into a cannibal infested forest, you probably wouldn’t have NPC’s sending you on quests, or a mission log or anything. You’re only mission would be to survive and it would be up to you to figure out how.”
Allie and Carin sound like they are in a real-life version of The Forest as they have to figure out how to find food and water and avoid any threats that come their way. The Nowhere Game has a compelling premise that draws audiences in and stands out from other horror movies. As much as fans love slashers, it can be boring to see the same type of killer. It’s interesting to hear that this villain has set up a survival game for the two main characters to play. There are no doubt going to be a lot of twists and turns, and with such talented stars on board the project, The Nowhere Game is sure to be endlessly entertaining.
It’s also exciting to see Shipka and Grace in a horror movie together as both actresses have some experience with the genre. Shipka starred in the Osgood Perkins film The Blackcoat’s Daughter alongside Emma Roberts, played the creepy Carrie Anne Camera in Longlegs, and also played the main character, a sweet teenage girl named Jamie Hughes in the 2023 movie Totally Killer. Grace is starring in Scream 7, although fans aren’t sure what role she is portraying yet. Since many survival movies feature characters who are alone on a boat or in the wilderness, it will be interesting to see two friends in such a terrifying situation. Will they split up and make things worse? Will they turn on each other? There are so many questions here.
What Are Some Great Survival Horror Movies?
Just like there are some excellent survival horror games, there are several movies that focus on characters trying to stay alive in an unimaginable situation. One of the most popular is The Descent, which was released in 2005 and is about friends who get trapped in a cave. Another is Sweetheart, the Blumhouse movie about Jennifer Remming (Kiersey Clemons), who finds herself alone in the ocean fighting a humanoid sea monster. Both of these films prove that while masked killers are terrifying, sometimes the elements are the scariest thing of all.
Other survival horror movies worth checking out include Eden Lake, Backcountry, and Significant Other. Eden Lake is a particularly emotional movie since the story follows a couple who go on a date in the countryside and come across violent teenagers.
It will be interesting to see how The Nowhere Game fits into the survival horror movie subgenre and what tropes it uses. Since the premise alone is intriguing, there is no doubt that it will be a fascinating film.
