Unconfirmed pricing for the new AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D gaming CPU, along with the AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D, has just been leaked online. While AMD hasn’t released the official prices just yet for these new gaming processors, this new leak suggests that the launch prices for both chips could be remarkably similar to their predecessors, the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D and 7950X3D.
AMD officially unveiled the Ryzen 9 9500X3D and 9900X3D at the CES 2025 trade show in January 2025, and while a release date hasn’t officially been announced, a release window of Q1 2025 has been mentioned. With the new Zen 5 architecture and 12 to 16 cores between them, we expect these chips to reasonably compete with the best gaming CPUs on the market, even if the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is still expected to remain on top for raw gaming performance.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), prolific PC hardware leaker momomo_us shared pictures showing a list of available retail pages for the 9950X3D and 9900X3D and the prices listed so far, alongside listings for the non-X3D versions of the CPUs. While the X3D processors are shown as out of stock, the 9900X3D is listed with a $599.99 price tag on Newegg, while the 9950X3D is shown with a $699.99 price tag. Momomo_us also shared a PCPartPicker screenshot for an item costing $699.99, which is presumably also for the 9950X3D.
If this data is accurate, then the 9950X3D could have an MSRP equal to that of the 7950X3D at launch, which also sold for $699. Likewise, the 7900X3D launched for $599 when it launched back in January 2023. We don’t have a launch date for these gaming CPUs just yet, but a recent 9950X3D release date rumor points to the end of March 2025.
What we can tell you is that the rumored 9950X3D and 9900X3D specs are set to be pretty powerful indeed. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D will have 16 cores and a whopping 32 threads, with a max boost clock up to 5.7GHz. The CPU itself is split into two CCDs, each with eight cores apiece, with the boost clock only applying to the eight cores without the important-for-gaming 3D V-Cache, as only one of the two CCDs has it. The other CCD will have eight standard Zen 5 CPU cores, but the ability to boost to a faster clock speed.
Like the 9950X3D, the 990X3D is also split in two with two CCDs under the heatspreader. It has 12 cores, with each CCD getting six of them. However, only one of the six-core CCDs has the 3D V-Cache, while the other six can boost up to 5.5GHz without it.
We won’t know how well these new AMD processors stack up in the real world against top performers like the 9800X3D until we can test them ourselves, although AMD has stated that it expects the new 9950X3D to be within 1% of the 9800X3D’s performance for gaming. Until then, check out our AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D review next to see why we believe it’s truly the best processor you can buy for a gaming PC right now.
