Unfortunately for Nintendo, the announcement of the Switch 2 was spoiled by a mountain of leaks. We already knew it was going to be announced soon, and we even knew that it would be fully backwards compatible. Perhaps the only surprise during the reveal was that a new Mario Kart is in the works and that the Joy-Cons would attach magnetically.

Look closely at the Nintendo Switch 2 and you’ll become a believer.
We are going to get a more detailed Nintendo Direct for the Switch 2 on April 2, 2025. You can expect a deep dive into the console’s specs, and maybe even a few launch titles, but you’re probably thinking that the leaks have revealed everything you need to know. Nintendo May Still Have A Big Surprise In Store For The Switch 2
Takaya Imamura has worked for Nintendo for over 32 years, on titles like Star Fox and the Zelda series. He, of all people, would know when the company is playing its cards close to its chest. While a lot of the information about the console has already been made public thanks to the leaks, he thinks Nintendo still has something up its sleeve.

In The Long Run, The Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer Isn’t Going To Matter At All
In case anyone needs a reminder, an underwhelming hardware reveal is going to matter a whole lot less than what’s to come.
“The Switch has had a really long lifespan, and it sold really well, which must mean that this is something that is a global success,” he said in an interview with GamesRadar+. “It’s got supporters all around the world, and I was thinking it would be difficult to really change that. But having said that, I think they’ve still got something up their sleeves.”
This is Nintendo we’re talking about, so no one would be surprised if they were to pull off a surprise. The company has a history of breaking the norm when it comes to consoles. Just look at the Switch itself – a portable console with removable controllers that can be docked into a TV!
We’re going to have to wait till April 3 to see what Nintendo throws at us, but it’s likely something to do with software rather than hardware.
