Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s tool cards bring a familiar mechanic to mobile devices. With them, players enhance their Pokemon with cards providing additional effects that are only removed when the pocket monster with the tool is knocked out. Pokemon TCG Pocket currently only has three tool cards: the Giant Cape, which increases HP, the Rocky Helmet, which deals damage to the opponent, and the Lum Berry, which removes special conditions affecting the Pokemon. In response to the game’s dominant meta strategies, one fan sought to improve the game’s balance with an original concept for a Pokemon tool card.

Reddit user severelyobeserat’s tool card concept is called Fresh Pair of Poketimbs. When equipped, the card would prevent the critter from receiving damage from Pokemon TCG Pocket card abilities, but not from regular attacks. According to them, this card could be an option for players to counter the game’s current meta revolving around ability-based chip damage.
With the release of its second set, Pokemon TCG Pocket introduced over 200 new cards. Darkrai ex and Magnezone are two cards from this expansion that have been stealing the spotlight along with Druddigon, which belongs to the Mythical Island miniset. Together, they currently form one of the strongest decks in Pokemon TCG Pocket. This is due to Darkrai ex and Druddigon’s consistent damage through their abilities. The duo becomes even more lethal when paired with the firepower of Magnezone.
The concept of tool cards has existed in Pokemon TCG since 2000 when the first cards of this type were introduced in the Neo Genesis expansion. However, the idea is still new in Pokemon TCG Pocket, having been introduced recently with the release of the Space-Time Smackdown expansion. As such, players are waiting for future updates in the hopes of additional tool cards that might shake up the game’s ever-evolving meta.
