Summary
- Yesterday, the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs stepped into the Super Bowl stadium for the biggest sporting event of the year.
- All the while, five players were fighting their own battle in Pokemon Go against Moltres.
- These complete strangers, likely rooting for different teams, came away from the Super Bowl this year with a Moltres.
While the Philadelphia Eagles went toe-to-toe with the Kansas City Chiefs during the Super Bowl yesterday, a much more important game was afoot — Pokemon Go.
u/NiceBorder1111111111 shared on Reddit that they, and three other trainers, took on a Moltres raid within the stadium between the first and second quarter. They managed to beat the Moltres after a tough fight, so they came away from the Super Bowl with a well-earned new legendary.
If you’re wondering who they rooted for, nobody. They’re a Cowboys fan.
“I was surprised that we got enough people playing the game in here,” OP said, attaching an AR photo of their ‘mon hanging out in the stadium. “I also [played] during the [community] day time period and got a few shinies and did my snapshots.
“I saw someone joined it so I figured I’d hop in too, then another joined, then another. It was completely random people. It was close at the end, only two Pokemon left”.
Don’t Worry, They Got Their Money’s Worth
While it’s sweet that five strangers, who I’d like to imagine were sitting at opposite ends of the stadium (likely even rooting for different teams), all came together during the Super Bowl to catch some Pokemon, many in the comments are concerned that OP wasted their money on a ticket. After all, playing Pokemon Go during the Super Bowl in the stadium itself seems like a waste of a good seat.
However, u/NiceBorder1111111111 assured fans that they only loaded up the game during the breaks, and that cell service was surprisingly reliable. If you’re looking to kill time, a quick raid is a decent way to do it.
