RUMOR: Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 Will Be Shorter Than Expected
A new rumor suggests that One Piece season 2 will be shortened, but that might be a good sign.
Mackenyu Maeda, who portrays Roronoa Zoro in the popular Netflix series inspired by Eiichiro Oda’s legendary manga One Piece, sat down for an interview with Variety for his new project Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The interviewer asked him about One Piece Season 2 and he shared new juicy details that fans would love to hear. “I’m trying not to spoil anything, but there’s a lot of new characters coming out,” Mackenyu said. “The arc — [“One Piece” creator Eiichiro Oda,] Oda-sensei announced it — we’re going to cover till Chopper comes out. And I met Chopper! He was the cutest! Oh, my God, I’m a Chopper fan. So just being able to act beside him is crazy. It was something special to bring home.”
Tony Tony Chopper is a fan-favorite One Piece character who serves as the doctor of the Straw Hat Pirates. He was a former reindeer but had the ability to transform after eating a Devil Fruit. The incident made him an outcast from his own tribe, so Dr. Hiriluk and Dr. Kureha trained him to be like them on Drum Island. Chopper wants to travel the world with the hope of curing those who are sick. Luffy and his crew met Chopper when they landed on Drum Island, seeking medical help for Nami after the latter fell seriously ill. However, there was no doctor as the tyrant former ruler, Wapol, exiled them all except Dr. Kuneha. Chopper served as Dr. Kuneha’s assistant due to his intelligence. Chopper was initially hesitant to talk to humans due to the traumatic mistreatment he endured in the past. When Wapol returned to reclaim Drum Island, Chopper fought alongside Luffy and used his Rumble Ball to showcase his superpower. After their victory, Luffy invited Chopper to join the crew as their doctor.
Chopper’s involvement in One Piece Season 2 is one of the things that many are looking forward to. Since he is part of the crew, many expect to see him in the next season, and they are excited about how Netflix will portray him, since he has different forms, making it challenging to adapt the character to live-action. However, last year, there were rumors that Netflix had cast actor and stunt performer Gavin Gomes for the role. Gomes reportedly updated his acting CV to include his role in Netflix’s One Piece.
Chopper is adorable for many reasons — he has an expressive face, emotional depth, and hilarious and relatable reactions when excited or embarrassed. He is cute and his signature “Hatto” moments have won fans’ hearts. Also, Chopper idolizes Luffy and the Straw Hats crew, and he treats them like family. He is always there to help them after battles. He is deeply loyal to the crew, so his addition to the live-action will surely add fun and, at the same time, tug at the viewers’ heartstrings. Unfortunately, One Piece isn’t listed among Netflix’s upcoming shows this year, so fans might have to wait longer.
One Piece Season 2 may not hit Netflix until 2026.
