Co-op and horror go together like bread and butter. You might think that wandering the halls of the Spencer Mansion or USG Ishimura alone makes for the scariest experience, but hearing your friend’s muffled screams from the darkest corners of a level before they’re unexpectedly snuffed out is much, much worse. While we’ve seen things like Lethal Company surge up the Steam charts, the game that undoubtedly popularized this trend was Phasmophobia, and while it’s been a few years since launch, developer Kinetic Games is revealing a huge 2025 roadmap for all you ghost hunters out there.
Phasmophobia’s first major update of the year is called Chronicle, and it’s bringing some big changes to the journal while reworking how you capture evidence. The tried-and-true photos tab is being replaced by the all-new Media tab, which brings each piece of spectral proof into another light. Media is divided into three sections: photos, videos, and sound recordings – with all evidence logged on corresponding pages.
The horror game’s media quality system is also being replaced, and it makes your first capture of any evidence all the more important. These will award you with even more cash and XP at the end of a contract, while duplicates will give you much less. Chronicle will also introduce a new piece of equipment, the Sound Recorder. This item records paranormal noises, which you can then decipher using your journal.

2025 also brings two map reworks, making navigation even better. Bleadsdale Farmhouse is getting visual enhancements and a complete layout redesign, with new locations for ghosts to reside in. You’ll be able to explore the garden outside the living room, and so much more. Grafton Farmhouse, meanwhile, is also getting an update at some point later this year. That’s not all, as a new small map is coming alongside these changes.
Kinetic Games says there’s also going to be a player character overhaul, alongside updates for Easter, Halloween, and the holiday season throughout the year.
This year isn’t the last of Phasmophobia’s updates, either, as there’s even more coming in 2026. You can expect some house map reworks, more levels to explore, and even what Kinetic Games is calling “Horror 2.0.” According to the team, that last one will feature a massive overhaul to many systems, with new ghost events, hallucinations, death rooms, death animations, and extra sounds added to the game.
We’ve also got all the best ghost games if you love being spooked, alongside the best co-op games if you love venturing into the unknown with friends.
