Marvel Rivals Fans Share The Characters They Hate Playing Against

Summary

  • Marvel Rivals has revealed it will be introducing mid-season rank resets, dropping everyone by four divisions in the middle of every season.
  • Understandably, this has angered pretty much every fan of the game, but especially those who don’t have much time to play and grind ranks.
  • One fan claims the change will make ranked “pointless” for them, while others dread the fact they’ll be dropped into lobbies without hero bans.

Marvel Rivals is one of the most popular games out there at the moment, and a lot of that is down to how smart NetEase has been when it comes to big decisions. It’s not a particularly predatory game in the cosmetics department, at least when compared to its closest rivals. It’s had a constant stream of new characters and maps for everyone to try out, and it’s a pretty fun game on top of all that.

Going to go out on a limb and assume no other game can boast this.

With the announcement that The Thing and Johnny Storm are being added on February 21 later this month, it seemed like the second half of Season 1 was poised to be just as well-received as the first. However, in an uncharacteristically bone-headed move, NetEase has revealed that it will be introducing mid-season ranked resets starting in Season 1.

On the day that The Thing and Johnny Storm are added, everyone in ranked will be dropped by four divisions, meaning those currently in Diamond will be placed in either Platinum or high Gold, and so on. NetEase claims it’s doing this to “shake up the battlefield”, but it’s been made pretty clear by fans that absolutely everyone hates the idea and that nobody wants it to happen.

Marvel Rivals Fans Are Furious Over Mid-Season Rank Reset Reveal

Understandably, this became a hot topic on the Marvel Rivals subreddit, kicked off by a user called AngryRaccoon44, who is upset with the idea of mid-season resets as they don’t have that much time to play after they finish work. They go on to claim raked will be made “pointless” if NetEase goes along with these plans, as they’ll be deranked quicker than they can rank up.

It’s a worry shared by a lot of other players, such as a user called Dandonking, who points out that mid-season resets will be “extremely unforgiving” to solo queuers, as it’s much harder to climb the ranks without a dedicated party you can coordinate with.

I refuse to believe anyone above the age of 20 is OK with this change

Another big worry also ropes in the annoyance that the game’s ban system is limited to Diamond and above. Billyb311 points out that people in Diamond will be dropped into games without the ban system, meaning a lot of better than average players will be able to use some of the game’s more busted characters, such as Storm, Hulk, Wolverine, and Luna Snow.

A user called Notice_Green then points out how absurd the whole thing is when coupled with the rank resets at the beginning of each season, as a player in Grandmaster can drop to Gold by simply taking a two-month break from playing. It’s essentially a subtle way to get people to keep playing, by punishing ranked players that want to take a break.

NetEase does state that it will tune mid-season resets “as necessary”, so it’s possible that the devs could scrap the idea entirely if we all make enough of a stink about it. Fingers crossed they do anyway, because I just got to Diamond and I will go back to Platinum kicking and screaming.
