How Garling, Shanks, and Shamrock’s Swords Are Connected

The Elbaf arc of One Piece has proven to be almost just as jaw-dropping as Egghead Island in terms of the massive reveals that have been made, even though the arc is still in its infancy. One of the greatest of these was made in Chapter 1138, which finally confirmed the existence of St. Figarland Shamrock; the long-speculated ‘evil twin’ of Shanks and the son of Garling, which also coincidentally confirms Shanks to be a Celestial himself.

The connections of these 3 characters possibly make the Figarland family the most powerful one in all of One Piece, considering how strong Shanks is known to be and the speculated power of his brother and father. One aspect that has sort of been brushed under the carpet has to do with their swords, as each of them wields a specific blade that is incredibly powerful and hints at amazing abilities, so let’s look at what these could be.

The Blades Of The Figarland Family

As stated earlier, the Figarland family currently holds the title of the most powerful family in all of One Piece, perhaps matched only by the Monkey family, though the extent of Dragon’s power is still a mystery. In the current day, Shanks has the most powerful Advanced Conqueror’s Haki in the world, as it was strong enough to subdue a Marine Admiral from miles away. It’s easy to assume that both Garling and Shamrock’s Conqueror’s Haki are relative to this, considering their status as an Elder and Leader of the Gods’ Knights respectively.

Moreover, their mysterious blades may also hint at how strong they are. All 3 members of the Figarland family use long sabers as their weapons of choice, and Shanks probably received his when he went to Marijoa as an heirloom of the Figarlands that is given to each member. Each of these swords is most likely a Supreme Grade Weapon, and they likely hold a familial connection similar to their wielders too.

Shanks’ Gryphon Is Incredibly Powerful

Shanks is confirmed to be one of the strongest characters in the entire franchise, and this is mostly due to his unmatched proficiency with Advanced Conqueror’s Haki. However, his sword may also be one of the series’ most powerful as it is likely a Supreme Grade Blade that was given to him by his family and was strong enough to equally dual with Mihawk, who used the Supreme Grade called Yoru. It’s given the name of Gryphon, which may hint at some special abilities.

The only time fans have outright seen Shanks use Gryphon was when he destroyed the Kid Pirates with it, where he took a vague, Gryphon-like shape before striking. Just like the probable power of Shamrock’s sword, there’s a possibility that Shanks imbued the abilities of the Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Gryphon Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit to his sword, allowing it to deal this kind of damage, considering this fruit has yet to be seen in canon.

Conversely, Shamrock appears to have a very similar weapon to Shanks. The sabers that all 3 of them use are strikingly similar, sporting the same hilt, guard, and blade style. The most notable thing about Shamrock’s weapon, however, is the black sheen that it has running along its back, making many fans think that not only is this weapon a Supreme Grade, but it’s also one of the few Black Blades as well, making it even more special.

His sword is called Cerberus and has the power to seemingly summon the mythical beast, leading many fans to believe that the long-awaited Cerberus Devil Fruit was used on Shamrock’s sword. The powers it grants the blade are truly terrifying, since the edge of the blade can be tripled in the beast’s mouth and even launched from its body, making it just as deadly of a ranged weapon. Moreover, it seems that the Cerberus formed from the sword has a mind of its own and can be controlled remotely by Shamrock.

Garling’s Sword May Have The Typhon Fruit

The Sword That Likely Scarred Whitebeard

Following the trend set by the swords of his sons, Garling’s weapon may just be the greatest of them all. Since he was present at the God Valley Incident and was confirmed to be one of the most powerful combatants of them all, it is highly likely that Garling fought against Whitebeard in this event and, through his proficiency with Haki and the strength of his Supreme Grade Sword, was most probably the one who caused Whitebeard’s iconic scars.

Due to the naming conventions and the possible powers of the swords of his sons, Garling’s sword probably has a Devil Fruit ability that mirrors its status as a Supreme Grade Sword; the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Typhon. In Greek mythology, Typhon was the king of the monsters and one of the greatest threats in the entire world, which would make sense for Garling to have this power in his sword. Also, Typhon is the father of Cerberus and perhaps even Gryphon, which cements this theory further.
