Summary
- Players want a change to Limited Character Banner for more variety and frequent re-runs.
- Proposal to increase featured characters from 2 to 3 per update for better player experience.
- Fans suggest a triple banner mechanic like Honkai: Star Rail to address power creep.
Genshin Impact players want to see a major change to the Limited Character Banner, which is widely regarded as the main banner in the game. This banner is the primary source of revenue for Genshin Impact, as it’s the only one that features new five-star characters, who take center stage in each new update.
Since the addition of the Natlan region, Genshin Impact has been introducing at least two new characters in each update, with Mavuika, Citlali, and Lan Yan being the most recent additions in Version 5.4. However, this pattern will be broken in the next update, as HoYoverse will introduce only one new playable unit, the five-star Anemo user Yumemizuki Mizuki.

Once a character’s release banner ends, Genshin Impact players must wait for a re-run, which usually arrives 5–6 months later. As the pool of playable characters continues to expand, it has become much harder for Genshin Impact to frequently give re-runs to older characters. Over the last couple of months, many fans have complained that some of their favorite characters have not made an appearance for over 10 consecutive updates. Currently, Genshin Impact‘s double-banner gacha mechanic allows HoYoverse to feature four characters per update, two for each banner cycle. A Reddit user named keiosKnivesALot has proposed a simple solution to this problem: increasing the number of featured characters per cycle from two to three. This change would allow the game to introduce re-runs much more frequently.
Genshin Impact Players Want New Tripple Banner Mechanic
The double-banner mechanic was introduced for a similar reason and was implemented during the first half of the Inazuma arc. Since then, three new major regions have arrived, and the roster has grown significantly. Many fans agree that Genshin Impact‘s Chronicled Wish is a step in the right direction, as it allows players to pull for some of the game’s oldest characters.
However, the Chronicled Banner did not address the issue that some characters, like Kokomi, have already missed 14 consecutive updates. Kokomi’s last banner appearance was during update 3.8, and her re-run banner was released at the end of July 2023. A couple of comments have pointed out that Genshin Impact should take inspiration from Honkai: Star Rail, which featured a new character in the first part of the update and three re-runs in the second.
Some fans, however, have noted that power creep is a much larger issue in Honkai: Star Rail, which is likely why there was a greater need for a triple banner. HoYoverse has yet to provide any official information about plans to increase the number of limited five-star characters featured in each update. It would not be surprising if this mechanic were added, considering that double banners were introduced for similar reasons.
