Mojang is cooking up a major update for Minecraft, and has spent the best part of the start of 2025 showing off new features coming to what they’re calling their Spring Drop.
From new variants for animals that have been in the game for decades, as well as some really incredible aesthetic changes that are really going to change the way the game looks and feels, we’re looking forward to the Spring Drop 2025. Leaf Litter, Mob Variants and Bushes – Minecraft Spring Drop 2025 Details
The drop system is a new way of updating Minecraft revealed late in 2024. Here’s everything being added in Minecraft’s Spring Drop 2025:
Leaf Litter, Wildflowers, Bushes, and Fireflies

Perhaps the most benign but interesting change is a host of new plants and flora to existing biomes. These include leaf litter, wildflowers, bushes, and firefly bushes.
Leaf Litter will spawn in forests, dark forests, and wooded badlands. It can be placed in different orientations, and like the cherry blossom flowers, can have multiple pieces placed on a single square. It can also be created by smelting leaf block, and be used as fuel for smelting itself.

Wildflowers are a new type of flower that will grow in Birch Forests, Old Growth Birth Forests, and Meadows.
Bushes grow in dozens of biomes and can be spread with bonemeal.

Firefly bushes are perhaps the biggest new addition from this as they’re incorporating the long-awaited fireflies. These create fireflies when it’s dark, and spawn in swamps and next to rivers.
Finally, all leaf blocks now have a chance of spawning falling leaf particles. While there’s no new building blocks, like in the Winter Drop, there’s still a lot to enjoy here.
Cactus Flowers and Dry Grass in Deserts

It’s not just the forests and plains that are getting some love in this update. Deserts are set to become a lot more verdant as flowers now have a chance to spawn on cactuses and dry grass will now spawn in deserts.
New Warm and Cold Mobs

Despite being some of the game’s longest tenured creatures, Cows, Chickens, and Pigs really haven’t had a lot of changes. Well with the Spring Drop, we’re now getting Warm and Cold varieties of each animal. Chickens will also lay eggs corresponding to their temperature type.
The new variants really add a lot of life to the world, with just a small change.
Misc. and Mechanical Changes in the Minecraft Spring Drop 2025
The new Test Block and Test Instance Blocks are Java exclusive items that’ll be able to be used by those in creative mode. Their function is currently unknown but could be useful in the future for servers, adventure maps, etc.
The Lodestone is also getting a new crafting recipe. The relatively rare block had had limited use in-game, but with a simplified crafting recipe may now see more use.
