Summary
- Disney Plus subscribers have been stumbling across a Marvel Rivals section on the streaming platform.
- The new section is dedicated to Marvel movies and shows that include appearances from characters on the Rivals roster.
- That does mean not everything in the MCU qualifies for inclusion in the new Rivals section.
In case you hadn’t noticed, Marvel Rivals is a big deal. 20 million people played it within two weeks of its release, and right now, two months in on a Monday morning, well over 100,000 people are playing it on Steam alone. Rivals has become such a big deal for Marvel that its reach has now infiltrated Disney Plus with the game now having its own section on the platform.
Several people have shared evidence of a “Featuring Characters From Marvel Rivals” section starting to appear for them on Disney Plus over the past few days, including Culture Crave. Culture Crave’s tweet shows Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Ragnarok, and Captain America: Civil War included in the new section, the last of those three including a lot of characters you can play as in Marvel Rivals.
Unfortunately, the new section doesn’t appear to be popping up for me. Disney clearly knows I don’t need to be reminded or convinced to watch its Marvel content, nor do I need to be reminded that Marvel Rivals exists.
You might think a Marvel Rivals section on Disney Plus is somewhat obsolete since Marvel already has its own dedicated area on the streaming platform. Not everyone in the MCU is on the Rivals roster yet, though. Surprising, I know, considering how many heroes and villains there already are on the Rivals roster.
Marvel Rivals Now Has Its Own Section On Disney Plus
But How Many Of Them Show The Characters Using Their Ults?
She-Hulk, for example, qualifies for the wider Marvel section on Disney Plus, but she hasn’t made it into Rivals yet. Since regular Hulk makes a cameo in the show you could argue that She-Hulk does feature a character from Rivals, but that feels like a bit of a stretch. Captain Marvel, Eternals, The Marvels, and Agatha All Along are other MCU projects that you won’t find under the new Marvel Rivals section.
Two months in and Rivals has been so popular that its reach is already starting to infiltrate areas beyond the video game world. Not just via a Disney Plus section, but the game also already has its own Funko Pops. Doctor Doom, Magneto, Iron Man, and a super-size Galacta were revealed last week. You can almost guarantee there will be more to come too.
As for the game itself, players still have two more new characters to look forward to this season. Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman kicked things off, and they will be joined by Human Torch and The Thing at some point very soon. Rivals devs have also committed to releasing a new character every month and a half beyond that with a lot of upcoming additions potentially leaked.
