Summary
- Captain America: Brave New World is tracking to surpass previous franchise films in ticket pre-sales by about 40%.
- Projections indicate the film could open as high as $105 million domestically, with a total haul between $207 million and $274 million.
- Overseas pre-sales are promising, with Chinese audiences showing strong support on the first day, exceeding numbers from previous films in the franchise.
As global cinemas brace for the arrival of Captain America: Brave New World and the movie’s promotional touring well underway, there’s some good news for Kevin Feige, Bob Iger, and anyone interested in the movie’s commercial performance: it’s tracking to open better than previous projections.
With less than four days to its release, the final marketing push for Marvel’s Valentine offering, Captain America: Brave New World is in full swing. It is the MCU’s first movie of the year and the first since July 26, 2024, when Deadpool & Wolverine aired in global theaters. Captain America: Brave New World’s ticket pre-sale numbers in its first two days were better than previous franchise bombs such as The Marvels—by about 40%— and on par with Eternals, Black Widow, and Dune: Part Two.

Let’s Face It, Captain America: Brave New World Is Going To Be Bad
A tale of rewrites, reshoots, and negative test screening feedback reports. Is the upcoming MCU film headed towards failure?
Captain America: Brave New World Is Projected To Open as High as $105 Million
…and at Least $86 Million
Earlier projections for Captain America: Brave New World estimated a domestic opening weekend gross reaching as high as $95 million. But going into the Super Bowl, forecasts courtesy of Box Office Theory now place the film’s three-day domestic debut at no lower than $86 million and a peak of $105 million. The film’s overall domestic haul is projected to fall within the $207 million and $274 million range—slightly higher than the previous prediction of $195 million to $280 million.
Just like its U.S. pre-sales, the overseas pre-sales of Captain America: Brave New World are equally encouraging. According to Luiz Fernando on X, the Chinese audiences rewarded the film with $346,000 on the first day of pre-sales. For reference, not even Deadpool & Wolverine, The Batman, or Dune: Part Two managed to grab such numbers, instead having $221,000, $175,000, and $87,000 respectively.
If Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford indeed open shop on the higher end of the $105 million estimate, it will be an impressive jump over Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s $95 million three-day opening but less so considering that the last installment, Captain America: Civil War, opened with $179 million. That said, Captain America: Civil War was essentially an Avengers film in all but name, with nearly all the MCU’s heavyweights featuring in it.
It goes without saying that forecasts and predictions are inconclusive. Besides, they historically move upward post-Super Bowl— meaning that the next and final predictions for this film would be almost certainly higher. There’s no doubt skepticism among the general audience about Captain America: Brave New World and multiple reshoots are not helping its outlook. With a reported production budget of roughly $180 million— according to The Hollywood Reporter— a global cume of at least $500 million is what Marvel and Disney executives would be aiming for their latest movie to break-even. Such a figure is more than doable since Captain America: Brave New World is virtually without competition and hulk-enthusiasts are already excited about a red flavor of the green rage.
