In Poppy Playtime Chapter 4, players descend into the hidden Prison below the Playtime Co. Factory in their continued efforts to aid Poppy in defeating the Prototype. Encountering allies old and new, players will have to contend with “The Doctor” as he drops them into a variety of deadly traps for his own amusement as they navigate these lower levels of the facility.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 4, like the three chapters prior, is filled with secrets to uncover and Easter Eggs to discover. From the ever-present Limon to some well-hidden foreshadowing, there’s lots to find as you explore the sinister prison that lurks beneath Playtime Co’s factory. The secrets and Easter Eggs in this article have been ordered based on when they can be encountered in the game. Naturally, this means there are spoilers ahead, so it’s best to beat the chapter yourself, or at least watch a playthrough, before reading this.

Here’s how players can get all 17 video tapes in Poppy Playtime Chapter 4.

Doey Advert Phone Number

VHS Tape 1 Doey Commercial in Poppy Playtime chapter 4

This Easter Egg required you to call the phone number at the end of the “Doey the Doughman” advert near the game’s start. For a short time after release, this would take you to a pre-recorded message from Playtime Co. At the time of writing this number no longer functions as it did, simply saying “Goodbye”, though multiple sources have provided recordings of the original (longer) message. In short, it appears to be a customer service number for Playtime Co. Though the automated response asking you to wait, as all “Customer Satisfaction Associates” are busy, gradually distorts and cuts out, with distorted sounds and screaming in the background.

Limon

One Easter Egg everyone’s happy to see again is Limon. This oft-hidden lemon appears in every chapter of the game and will say its name when picked up using the Grab Pack. Found early in the Chapter in an easily missed spot, bringing Limon along for the ride doesn’t serve any practical purpose but can be quite a fun challenge. If you drop Limon, it’ll say its name.

Huggy Wuggy Foreshadowing

Huggy Wuggy’s reappearance at the end of the game caught some players by surprise. Still, even disregarding the foreshadowing from previous chapters, there were clues in Chapter 4 that he would return. The Hangman puzzle found in the first prison block you explore has a sketch of Huggy Wuggy lying on the ground with a missing arm, mirroring his more tattered appearance at the end of the chapter and alluding to his fall from the walkway back in Chapter 1.

The Soccer Goal (& Goalkeeper)

Once you arrive in the Safe Haven, you’ll notice a soccer goal in the middle of the Safe Haven and a ball nearby. If you use the Grab Pack to knock the ball into the goal, past the cardboard cutout goalkeeper, one of several sound effects will play. The goalkeeper is also rigged up to move when a button behind the goal is pressed, likely a gadget rigged up by some of the toys living in the Safe Haven.

Jeth Sones’ Book

Seth Jones, Environmental Artist at Mob Entertainment, gets a small shout-out in this chapter via a book found in the Safe Haven. Copies of the book “Umber Agden and the Pumpkin Lord” by Jeth Sones can be found on several shelves around the Safe Haven, including behind the bar in the main area and on the bookshelves in the room off to the side of the infirmary.

The Smiling Critter’s and Nightmare Critter’s Zippers

This one’s pretty obvious, but fun to look out for if you can get close without them gnawing your face off (Looking at you, Baba Chops.) Each of the Smiling Critters and Nightmare Critters have a custom tag on their zipper, which you can spot on them when you meet them around the factory too. Here’s a quick list of them, if you’re curious.

Yarnaby’s Scars

This one is tricky to see without a free cam mod, but you can see some rather nasty scars on Yarnaby’s body when you get up close to him, such as on his legs in the picture above (though it’s tricky to see because of lighting and the glass). While it’s hard to tell if this is from fighting other toys or from the Doctor’s “experiments”, it paints a rather sad picture of Yarnaby’s past.

Escape The Doctor’s “Kill or Be Killed” Trap

Insert the Key and Divert Power to the Locked Door Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 (1)

During your journey to reach the Doctor, he’ll eventually put players in a difficult situation. To open the exit, you’ll need to attach a plug to a device containing one of the smiling critters, causing their death. While there initially seems to be no alternative, if you look up at the ceiling you can find a hole with a handle you can grab. This allows you to escape the chamber without killing the innocent smiling critter, frustrating the Doctor and progressing the story as normal.

The Time Tape (The Doctor and the Prototype)

12. Time

This tape can be found after defeating The Doctor and retrieving the Omni-Hand, in a room behind the Doctor’s main body, and sheds some light on his interactions with the Prototype. It suggests that the Doctor is working on some sort of procedure for the Prototype, but that it does not work yet, and the Prototype is growing impatient with him. The nature of this procedure is currently unknown and several theories exist as to what the Doctor might have been working on. This is also the only direct conversation between the Doctor and the Prototype that can be found in the game at the time of writing, highlighting the uneasy alliance between them.

The Untitled Tape (Poppy’s True Identity)

Quite possibly the biggest piece of hidden lore in this chapter, the Untitled Tape can be grabbed during the chase with Doey near the end of Chapter 4. After grabbing it during the frantic chase and defeating Doey in his boss fight, you’ll finally get the opportunity to play this vital tape. It was recorded by Poppy before the “Hour of Joy” and confirms that she is Elliot Ludwig’s Daughter. It also sheds a little more light on the aftermath of the Hour of Joy and helps to contextualize her plan to destroy the factory.

Limited Use Omni-Hand?

Something I noticed while playing through Chapter 4 was that the Omni-Hand has four blue lights on it when you first acquire it. Each time it’s used to activate something, one of these lights turns off, possibly implying that the Omni-Hand can only be used four times. Since we used it four times throughout this chapter, we may discover it no longer functions correctly in Chapter 5. This seems likely since the devs probably want to limit our access to a hand that grants full access to the entire facility.
