Summary
- Healers in Solo Leveling are crucial for successful raids, reviving fallen allies instantly.
- Healers offer strength buffs beyond healing, allowing allies to exceed their power limit temporarily.
- Utility spells like haste buffs cast by healers can be as important as reviving allies in battles.
Solo leveling’s dynamic power system comprises various types of Hunters, with each Hunter category playing a significant role in dungeon raids. While combatant-type Hunters, such as fighters, assassins, and mages, are often in the limelight and considered more integral to a Hunter Raid, there’s another category that is even more crucial for a raid to be successful – Healers.
As non-combatant Hunters, it’s easy to conflate a healer as a weaker Hunter compared to its counterparts, especially considering their only goal is to buff their allies in the dungeon. However, the notion of Healers being weak is far from the truth, as this hunter type is arguably the most important one in the entire party. Healers also possess abilities that go beyond healing, with those at higher ranks offering all sorts of utility spells. It’s safe to say that Healers are an underrated group of hunters that are arguably the backbone of a successful Hunter Raid in Solo Leveling.

The Role Of Healer-Type Hunters
Healers Go Beyond Merely Healing Their Allies
Since Solo Leveling’s power system borrows many of its concepts from MMORPGs and their dungeon systems, the series features a few classes of hunters, such as fighters, tankers, and mages. The Healer Hunter class is one of the six Hunter types in Solo Leveling, and as the name suggests, Healers are non-combatant hunters that specialize in providing support and utility to their party members. Healers are arguably one of the unique hunter categories in the series, since they have minimal fighting capabilities and are forced to rely entirely on their combatant hunter counterparts for safety.
Moreover, the strength of a Healer is equivalent to a Hunter that is one rank below them, meaning an S-rank Healer would have the fighting prowess of an A-rank Hunter, which is a significant decrease in overall power. Min Byung-G
u fell to the Ant King largely due to this disadvantage, since he was left to fend for himself after his party members failed to keep him safe. Nevertheless, Healers make up for this disadvantage through the plethora of unique buffs and spells that they have in their arsenal.
Healers Can Revive Injured Allies in Raids
High Ranking Healers Can Bring Back Fallen Allies
The foremost reason why Healers are treated as a prerequisite for a hunter raid is their ability to instantly bring back their fallen allies into battle. While this goes for all Healer types, regardless of their rank, higher ranked healers are an even greater asset for a hunter raid, as with each rank, the abilities and skills of Healers improve dramatically. For instance, Lee Joohee, a B-rank healer, was able to heal her allies’ wounds, though it took her considerable time to even heal one party member. Moreover, she could only heal one ally at a time, which is largely due to her lower Hunter rank.
I thought your stomach was all that needed healing, but you’re hurt everywhere!
On the other hand, Min Byung-Gu, one of the strongest Hunters in Korea who fell to the monsters in the Jeju Island raid, was able to heal his allies almost instantaneously. Moreover, he could even regenerate lost limbs in mere moments, and his range of healing extended to the entire party instead of just one member at a time. Such prowess deems healers almost a necessity for any party to be successful, as they can ensure that their allies keep on fighting even after taking several critical hits. Healers are also needed to reduce casualties from hunter raids, as entering a dungeon without a healer would be deemed a martyr operation.
Healers Offer Strength Buffs to Allies
Healers Can Boost Physical Prowess
The name “Healer” might hint at these Hunters merely being able to heal their allies, yet their role in battle goes far beyond merely healing wounds and reviving allies. Healer-type Hunters can also cast spells that buff their allies’ strength and physical prowess by multiple folds. Strength buffs are just as important as healing in a Hunter Raid, as they can allow hunters to go beyond the set limit of their Hunter Rank.
Since a hunter’s rank can never increase, no matter how much they train, they are practically stuck at their current power levels. However, a strength buff can allow them to temporarily breach this limit and attain strength that is far beyond their Hunter rank. Strength buffs can mostly be cast by high-rank healers, though lower-rank hunters can also cast this spell, albeit at a lower potency. Lee Joohee, a B-rank hunter, has been witnessed using strength buff spells, though the intensity of her strength buff is relatively low. However, if an S-rank hunter were to use the same spell, their allies would gain strength that is equivalent to an increase in one entire Hunter rank.
Allies Can Receive All Sorts of Utility
Healers Can Cast A Plethora of Support Spells
Similar to strength buffs, healers can grant allies all sorts of other utility and support buffs. While the extent of utility that Healers offer is yet to be revealed, a common buff that healers offer to their allies is the haste buff. This is a skill that allows afflicted users to go beyond their set physical limits. Instead of buffing their strength, however, a haste buff increases their speed, reaction time, and overall agility for a brief period of time.

While not as significant as healing a lost ally, haste buffs and other utility spells can be just as important in a battle as reviving fallen allies, since these buffs can allow their teammates to avoid getting injured in the first place. While there aren’t that many instances of utility buffs being used by healers, there is one example of Jinwoo being afflicted by a haste buff in his fight against Kang Taeshik, allowing him to dramatically bypass his set limits in terms of agility and speed.
How The Jeju Island Raid Showcased the Significance Of Healers
Min Byung-Gu’s Healing Dramatically Affected the Raid
The significance of Healers in a Hunter party has been apparent throughout Solo Leveling’s run. However, the most prominent example of the importance of this Hunter category was witnessed during the Jeju Island raid. With a never-ending swarm of monsters and creatures, the Jeju Island raid team suffered multiple casualties. If it weren’t for the healers present on the scene, the entire raid team would have been swallowed whole by the insects and monsters present at the scene.
The sooner I act, the more people I heal.
The reduced casualties can easily be attributed to Min Byung-gu, an S-rank healer who died fighting a hero while desperately saving his allies till his very last breath. His healing skills were so exceptionally powerful that he was able to immediately regenerate Dong-wook’s cut-off arm. Such healing is almost god-like, and he was able to perform these spells back-to-back without suffering from fatigue. His spells were able to keep his allies in battle for much longer than expected, even allowing them to retreat from battle when matters got out of hand. While the Jeju Island incident is laden with lessons for Hunters, arguably the most significant lesson is how crucial Healers are for a successful Hunter Raid.
