As the story of Arthur Morgan draws to a close with his final sunrise, John Marston rides again to live on with his wife and son. The adventures of the Van der Linde gang may be over, but the golden boy himself is free to ride another day and take care of some unfinished business in Red Dead Redemption 2’s epilogue.

As players step into the spurs of John Marston, they might be wondering to themselves just what exactly they can do now that they are no longer Arthur Morgan, and there’s still a good bit of meat on Red Dead Redemption 2’s bones, with plenty of content left for players to do while they are playing as John Marston in the epilogue.

Pay Your Respects to Old Friends

It’s always hard to say goodbye to those we love, and throughout Red Dead Redemption 2, players have come to love many characters that have passed on. As John Marston remains one of the few who survived the Van der Linde gang unscathed and unburdened, it’s only right that he pay his respects to those who had died to get him to where he is today.

John can visit many characters, from Sean MacGuire to Arthur Morgan, with the latter being the most important. Visiting Arthur’s grave which overlooks the sun on a cliffside in Ambarino is a must for John Marston, as this was a man who saved him – his brother.

Finish Up Arthur Morgan’s Unfinished Business

Help Those Who Met Arthur Back in 1899

With Arthur’s death, he left John with his legacy, which included his satchel, journal, and hat. With Arthur’s journal now in John’s possession, John can look through it to see what Arthur was up to during 1899, and even help Arthur close his final chapters by concluding his unfinished business by checking in with old friends Arthur, but strangers to John.

There are plenty of characters that Arthur met in 1899 that had their lives significantly improved thanks to meeting this reserved outlaw, and John Marston can pay them a visit to talk about Arthur and share some smiles in grief, like Charlotte Balfour of Willard’s Rest, or Hamish Sinclair, the veteran.

Explore New Austin in 1907

A New State Awaits Exploration in 1907

Blackwater isn’t so hot for the Van der Linde gang as it was in 1899, and as such, John Marston can now venture West into New Austin without the risk of Pinkertons or invisible snipers taking shots at him. While Arthur could never go back West, John Marston still can, and there he can find a few new secrets to pass the time.

John’s journey to the West will see him encounter the Del Lobo gang, and even explore the cursed town of Armadillo, infected with cholera, with strange ties to the Strange Man. There isn’t a lot to do out West in New Austin, but it’s still nice for John to see important sights that he will revisit in 1911 in the first Red Dead Redemption.

Become a Legend of the East

Complete Challenges in the Compendium to Become the Best Gunslinger

There are 9 sets of challenges, each with 10 ranks to complete. From Weapons Experts to Master Huntsman, Arthur Morgan could prove that he is a true legendary outlaw and gunslinger through these challenges, but death takes him before he can complete them all. With John Marston now in the Spurs, he might be able to become what Arthur Morgan never could due to his tuberculosis.

What better way to honor Arthur Morgan than by becoming the Legend of the East and completing all 90 challenges that await players? Play some poker, kill grizzly bears with throwing knives, and become a sharpshooter, all to earn the Legend of the East outfit.

Enjoy Being a Family Man

Help Out on Beecher’s Hope and Spend Time With the Family

It’s a peaceful life on Beecher’s Hope, and while the land might not be great for farming anything but rocks, there’s still quite a bit of work to do. It’s an honest living, and while John might miss the Van der Linde gang and their nightly fun around a campfire, John can still have a few sing-a-longs and meals with Jack, Abigail, and Uncle.

It’s not as exciting as being an outlaw, but it’s good and honest work that John Marston can spend his days doing, so enjoy being a family man who helps around the homestead by sitting down for family meals, conversations, and chores to prove that John has moved on from the outlaw life.

Indulge in a Gunslinger’s Life Through Bounties and Gang Wars

Prove That Legends Never Die Without a Gun in Hand

Farming rocks, herding sheep, and picking up animal feces with a pitchfork might not be the life John envisioned for himself back in 1899, but it’s honest work. However, if John needs a break from all of that noise to indulge in what made life fun back then, then it’s time to grab a six-shooter and a holster and head back out East.

Across the many states in Red Dead Redemption 2, danger still lurks in 1907, and many gangs still roam free in a tamed West. John Marston can find new gangs, battle old ones, and engage in all sorts of warfare to become the last man standing when the time of outlaws is at an end.

Find Rare Collectibles and Creepy Encounters

So, farming might not be the way for John Marston, and if that’s the case, then get back on the saddle and head out East to the states of New Hanover, Ambarino, and Lemoyne in search of adventure. While Arthur’s story is over, John Marston’s is just beginning, so head back out there to discover stranger missions both new and old.

If players have completed all possible stranger missions, then there is still excitement to be had, as there are some vast secrets found across all the states, from rare encounters to collectibles hidden away in deep and dark caves that will make John a true explorer.

Fill Arthur’s Journal With Animals, Fish, and Strange Locations

Exploring the East is Weird and Beautiful, and Helps Complete the Compendium

The Compendium in Red Dead Redemption 2 is filled to the brim with all sorts of activity, from different animals to study, to Legendary Animals to hunt, and even Legendary Fish With the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 being so vast, players can find all sorts of things for Arthur to write about and draw in his journal.

With Arthur now moved on to the next life, John can finish the journal with his own writings and drawings, which are far more distinct than Arthur’s due to his lack of skill with a pencil, but he is trying. Players can find an assortment of strange sights and become master hunters by hunting over 200 animals in the game.
