Throughout Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s map, you’ll run into various things you can interact with. However, the game doesn’t always tell you what they are and what they do. One of those things you’ll spot is an Indulgence Chest, which is indicated by a small yellow thing going into a box on the world map.

You’ll notice that interacting with them costs you a lot of Groschen. Sometimes, it’ll ask you for multiple thousands, which you likely won’t have. It’s best to understand what exactly Indulgence Chests do before you interact with them.
Where To Find Indulgence Chests
You will find Indulgence Chests in most towns, but only in specific places. If you head to Scribes or churches, you’ll usually see an Indulgence Chest on the outside of their buildings.
They look somewhat like post boxes. They’re small boxes on sticks and will be right outside of doors to places people consider to be holy.
Once you’ve found an Indulgence Chest (you don’t have to interact with it), it will be added to your map so you can return to it.

They’re actually quite simple things. By interacting with them, you put money in them, which then goes to the clergy and holy members of society.
Once you’ve put money in, your reputation in the area will improve. Your reputation with the church and its representatives will improve most of all, so it’s useful to do it during or before a quest involving the church.
That happens a lot while you’re in Kuttenberg city, and there’s a church with an Indulgence Chest in the north west of the town. You can pay into it whenever you need to.
Since they’re expensive, only put money in an Indulgence Chest when you really need to improve your reputation in the area.
How much you have to pay depends on how much crime you’ve committed in the area. The more stealing and killing you’ve done, the more the church will want from you. When I last went to one, I was asked to pay nearly 4000 Groschen.
