The exclusive model is dead if you haven’t noticed. That’s why ps games are coming out on pc and sometimes Xbox (the show for example). Exclusive model Has been failing since the ps4. In the near future real consoles will have even less exclusives, and the war will shift from console sales to who makes the better games. Personally I’m for it bc gamers ont get anything out of a console selling a lot, but they def win when content competition heats up. Now ps players can buy Xbox games just like pc players – that’s more potential sales and attachment. It will be a battle or content sales mark my words.
The real reason PlayStation sells more is simply brand preference. It’s the coca-cola of consoles. If you break down the top selling/grossing games now and of all time, none of them are exclusives. It’s games like COD, GTA, Fortnite. That’s why there’s a big push for live service games.
If you ask why PlayStation sells more, people will say games, but analytics show that’s not really true. Kinda like how people claim to hate micro transactions, but yet MTs continually make millions of dollars per release – completely optional, non-mandatory MTs mind you.
In regards to switch specifically, it had no direct competition. It’s a portable, not a true console. It can’t keep pace with a console or pc from a technical standpoint. And Nintendo is the Disney of video games. It’s not exclusives per se that people want, it’ just the characters. Mario doing this or that. That demo could care less about exclusivity. That’s just the only place they can get them. Nintendo would sell tons more if they opened those releases up and people would still buy switches bc as hardware it fits in an unoccupied space.
