What can fans expect from Hideaki Anno’s Gundam series?
The Federation continues the development of the Guncannon. Using technology from the Gundam, they create a new mobile suit more powerful than the Guncannon but still much less effective than the original Gundam, called the Guncannon Light. The war between the Earth Federation and Zeon rages on as the Federation successfully captures the space fortress of Solomon. They prepare to launch Solomon into Granada, a valuable Zeon asset, similar to how Zeon dropped the space colony onto Earth. Char Aznable, who has now been fitted with a repainted and re-armed Gundam, now named the Red Gundam, battles to prevent Solomon from dropping onto Granada.
He miraculously succeeds by causing an event called The Zeknova by resonating his Newtype powers with the Gundam’s Psycommu system. An event that veteran Gundam fans would immediately be reminded of the Axis Shock from Char’s Counterattack. While Char is successful at preventing the Solomon drop, the event causes him and the Red Gundam to vanish into thin air, completely missing in action. After this monumental defeat, the Federation calls for Zeon to resume peace negotiations and, on January 3, exactly one year after the start of the war, the One-Year War concludes with the decisive victory of the Principality of Zeon.
