Pokemon come in all shapes and sizes. With nine generations, there are tons out there to keep track of. However, trainers don’t exactly choose Pokemon just for their size, as most people typically care more about types and abilities. However, it is pretty interesting and sometimes even surprising to find out the actual size of these creatures.

The anime takes its liberties, and it can be very hard to tell what size a Pokemon is just by watching them battle. But their Pokedex entries in-game are very detailed, including the exact height and size of each Pokemon. From the biggest of the small to the smallest Pokemon ever, let’s take a look at the Pokemon who reach the shortest shorts.

Updated February 8, 2025 by Blaise Santi: Almost a year ago, The Pokemon Company shocked fans when they announced the follow-up to Pokemon Legends Arceus, titled Pokemon Legends Z-A, which is set to take place entirely in Lumiose City of the Kalos region from Pokemon X & Y. Fans are excited for the game, though given the lack of update for a year, there’s been speculation that the title will make its debut on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Before we find out for sure what the future of the Pokemon franchise looks like on Nintendo’s next generation of consoles, let’s take a look at some more of the smallest Pokemon in the franchise, who we’ll maybe get to bring over from Pokemon HOME into future titles.

Terapagos (Normal Form)

Terapagos made its debut in The Indigo Disk, the second DLC expansion of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Although it’s one of the smallest Pokemon in the entire franchise, it has a big role in the ninth-generation games’ main gimmick: Terastallization. Upon entering battle, the 8-inch tall Terapagos switches into its Terastal form, which is two inches taller.

However, from here Terapagos also has a further Terastallized state known as its Stellar-form, taking on the all-new Stellar typing that is super-effective against Terastallized Pokemon. It’s unknown how Terapagos’ functionality will be affected in future games, but hopefully there will be more opportunities to use its normal form, which is the cutest of the three.

Polteageist

Height: 8 Inches

Polteageist is the evolved form of Sinistea, who appears later on this list. This pure Ghost-type was introduced in the England-inspired Pokemon Sword & Shield, and though it looks much bigger than its pre-evolved form, appearances can be deceiving. As fans can see, Polteageist is NOT the fancy teapot, but the liquidy ghost inside it.

Fans will need to pay close attention to the Sinistea they catch, as having a stamp of authenticity on the bottom will change which item evolves it into Polteageist. It also shares its height with Sinistcha, the ecologically similar Pokemon that’s native to the Kitakami region in the Scarlet & Violet DLC expansion, The Teal Mask.

Floette

Height: 8 Inches

Despite being the evolved form of Flabebe, one of the smallest Pokemon in the franchise, Floette isn’t much bigger in height. The evolutionary line only really grows in size when Floette evolves into Florges, who stands at over 3 feet tall. Nevertheless, Floette plays a major role in the main story of Pokemon X & Y.

As the partner Pokemon of Kalos’ former king, AZ, an unobtainable form of Floette known as Eternal Flower Floette disappeared thousands of years before the events of X & Y. This additional form does not differ from regular Floettes in terms of its height, but maybe it’ll make an appearance in Pokemon Legends Z-A as a way to provide closure to the arc of AZ.

Foongus

Height: 8 Inches

Foongus is an interesting-looking Pokemon, with its mushroom head taking on the appearance of a Poke Ball. This was certainly taken advantage of in the gameplay of Pokemon Black & White, in which Foongus could be encountered in tall grass by being mistaken for an item sprite. Even though it’s quite small, Foongus’ evolved form, Amoonguss isn’t much bigger at only 2 feet tall.

If it weren’t for the introduction of Poltchageist in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Foongus would be tied with some of the other Pokemon on this list for the smallest Grass-type at only 8 inches.

Rookidee

Height: 8 Inches

Rookidee is unique in the Pokemon franchise for one particular reason: it’s a pure Flying-type. This is a quality Rookidee only shares with two other Pokemon: its evolution, Corvisquire, and the fifth generation Legendary Pokemon Tornadus. It’s also surprising that Rookidee makes this list given its status as a regional bird, usually a coveted spot in a given generation.

In fact, because of its height of only 8 inches, Rookidee is the smallest regional bird in the franchise thus far. A vast majority of the other regional birds, such as Pidgey, Fletchling, and Starly, are all 1 foot tall.

Morelull

Height: 8 Inches

Morelull was introduced in Pokemon Sun & Moon as the pre-evolution of Shiinotic and is coincidentally the second mushroom Pokemon to appear on this list. That being said, while Foongus takes on the appearance of the toxic Amanita muscaria type of mushroom, Morelull is based on the Mycena, a luminescent genus of mushrooms that is notably smaller than the A. muscaria in real life.

It’s also appropriate that Morelull is not a Poison-type like Foongus, given the Mycena‘s typical lack of toxicity. Its evolution, Shiinotic, is a little bit taller at over 3 feet, appearing more like a lamp than a Pokemon. Suffice it to say, this is the evolutionary line to befriend over Foongus and Amoonguss.

Diglett

Height: 8 Inches

At 8 inches tall, Diglett has been one of the smallest Pokemon since the series’ beginning. Introduced in the first generation of games, Diglett is presumed to be as small as it is. However, it’s unknown what the Pokemon looks like underground, which has sparked a lot of fan speculation over the years.

It wasn’t until Pokemon Scarlet & Violet that Diglett’s true form may have been revealed in the form of Wiglett, a Water-type Pokemon that’s nearly 4 feet tall. However, the Pokedex seems to imply that Diglett isn’t larger than 8 inches, so it’ll have to evolve into Dugtrio to get a little larger.

Dedenne

Height: 8 Inches

Every generation introduces a new “Pika-clone,” an Electric-type rodent that resembles Pikachu or its evolutionary line. These Pokemon have round cheeks that elicit electric currents. Dedenne was introduced in Pokemon X & Y and also happens to be the smallest of the Pika-clones. It’s a surprising record to hold, considering the ninth generation’s Pawmi is also tiny.

However, Dedenne’s height is noticeable in its anime appearances, as the Pokemon is Bonnie’s companion during the XY anime seasons. As far as Pika-clones go, Dedenne is among the cutest Pokemon.

Shaymin (Land Forme)

If it wasn’t for Meltan, Shaymin would still hold the record for the smallest Mythical Pokemon, which it originally held after its introduction in Pokemon Diamond & Pearl. In its Grass-type Land Forme, Shaymin stands at 8 inches tall. It’s pretty small for a Pokemon that, according to the Pokedex, can remove toxins from the air and turn them into blossoming flowers.

However, Shaymin also has a Sky Forme, which can be activated by exposing it to a Gracidea Flower in the daytime. This form is taller than its Land Forme, at 1 foot and 4 inches.

Applin

Height: 8 Inches

Applin was introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield, and with its adorable little faux-apple style and coveted Grass/Dragon-typing, it quickly became a fan favorite. Players also like that this Pokemon has a branching evolution, with it being able to evolve into Flapple or Appletun depending on the evolutionary item given to it.

It makes sense that this Pokemon is nearly accurate when it comes to the size of real apples. Additionally, it’s super cute that when Applin is shiny, it is green, so players can collect both green and red apples.

Nymble

Height: 8 Inches

Despite its small size, Nymble is an impressive Pokemon to have so early on in the game. The little Pokemon evolves into Lokix at level 24, which boosts strength astronomically with its longer, serrated legs used in battle.

The tiny Bug-type Nymble may look cute and unassuming, but it can jump to impressive heights and has a hidden pair of legs that it can whip out during battle.

Mimikyu

Height: 8 Inches

Introduced in Pokemon Sun and Moon, Mimikyu quickly became a sensation because of its adorable Pikachu costume and mysterious backstory. Mimikyu only being 8 inches tall should surprise most Pokemon fans, as Mimikyu has previously been shown as a similar size to Pikachu, whose Pokedex entry lists it as 1’04” tall. However, the real Mimikyu is the Pokemon under the costume.

Mimikyu is a Ghost/Fairy-Type and many of its Pokedex entries are a little creepy, as they explain that anyone who sees its true form beneath its costume is doomed to die a terrible death.

Shroodle

Height: 8 Inches

Shroodle is a Poison/Normal-type Pokemon and is the pre-evolution of graffiti-loving Grafaiai, which resembles a lemur. Shroodle, on the other hand, looks more like a shrew, which makes sense considering its name.

Notably, Shroodle is the lightest Normal-type Pokemon at 1.4 lbs and joins Budew and Foongus as the smallest Poison-type Pokemon. When traveling around the Paldea region, you wouldn’t be at fault for running into a Shroodle without seeing it, as it’s pretty tiny in the overworld.

Milcery

Height: 8 Inches

Milcery is another Pokemon that was first introduced in Sword and Shield, and its height of only 8 inches may surprise most as it looks a lot larger in the game. However, when one considers it to be a splash of milk, its sizing makes a lot more sense.

This Fairy-type Pokemon evolves into Alcremie in a very unique and interesting way — while holding a certain sweet and when the player spins the character. Depending on the sweet, length of spin, rotation of spin, and time of day, it will determine what type of Alcremie Milcery will evolve into.

Rellor

Height: 8 Inches

Rellor is a Bug-type Pokemon based on a dung beetle, but instead of rolling a ball of dung, Rellor is never seen without its trademark ball of mud. And if a player happens upon a Shiny version of Rellor, its ball looks distinctly like a Nugget thanks to its shiny gold color.

Despite Rellor’s delicate size, it seemingly has no trouble wheeling that mud ball around every day, needing 1000 steps outside of its PokeBall to evolve into Rabsca. Surprisingly, Rellor trades its ball of mud when it becomes Rabsca, a Bug/Psychic-type that hovers in the air with a strange egg-like orb.

Klefki

Height: 8 Inches

Klefki was introduced with the release of Pokemon X and Y, the same generation as Fairy-type’s original introduction into the franchise. It’s a Steel/Fairy-type Pokemon, and although it currently has no other evolutions, it’s definitely got the potential to be given one in the future.

It makes complete sense that Klefki is only 8 inches tall, as it is meant to resemble a keychain and is known to collect keys from other people, even going so far as to steal them. Additionally, according to its Pokedex entries, if it likes a key, it will not let it go!

Meltan

Height: 8 Inches

Meltan is a special Pokemon that was originally teased during a Pokemon GO Community Day, and then finally released via Pokemon: Let’s Go! It’s a Steel-type Mythical Pokemon that evolves into Melmetal, but it can only be evolved in Pokemon GO and not any of the other titles. Thankfully, players who want a Melmetal in a mainline game can transfer via Pokemon HOME.

As its head is made of a little hex nut, it’s completely believable that Meltan is a mere 8 inches tall. What’s unbelievable is that when it evolves, Melmetal is a staggering 8’02” tall!

Ribombee

Height: 8 Inches

This Pokemon was introduced in the seventh generation games Pokemon Sun & Moon. It should not surprise anyone that a lot of the Pokemon that made it onto this list are Bug-Type, but Ribombee is a little more unique as a Bug and Fairy-type Pokemon.

It evolves from Cutiefly at level 25 but clearly doesn’t level up much in terms of size, as its design is primarily inspired by both bees and fairies. According to its Pokedex entries, it works a lot with pollen. It is definitely a small and cute addition to any team.

Flittle

Height: 8 Inches

Flittle is a little Psychic-type chick Pokemon that can be found floating around Paldea if players are eagle-eyed enough. Despite being able to walk, Flittle prefers to glide through the air using its psychic abilities from the yellow and pink frills above its toes.

This appearance makes it resemble a UFO, though its evolution is the more ostrich-likeEspathra. This Pokemon has low stats matching its size, but these increase quickly once it evolves into Espathra, gaining a lot of height in the process as well as a whopping Speed stat.

Spritzee

Height: 8 Inches

Coming in at the same height is another Fairy-type, Spritzee. It was also introduced in the later generations, beginning in the Pokemon X and Y games, as a version exclusive to Pokemon Y, while the Fairy-type Swirlix was exclusive to Pokemon X. While it is cute, its face also eerily resembles a plague doctor’s mask.

It also slightly resembles a flamingo, which is more obvious thanks to its evolution, Aromatisse. Besides being small, Spritzee also supposedly smells very good. According to the Pokedex entries, royal ladies would sometimes carry these Pokemon around instead of using perfume.
