Capcom is considering holding another Monster Hunter Wilds beta test due to the recent PlayStation Network outage. The interruption of service messed with the ongoing Monster Hunter Wilds open beta, preventing PS5 users from playing it for a whole day.
The second Monster Hunter Wilds open beta launched for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 6, at 10pm ET. A day later, the PlayStation Network went offline, making all online games on Sony’s consoles unplayable. Sony took approximately 24 hours to restore its servers, which were back up and running in the late evening hours (ET) on Saturday, February 8.

Fans Angry Over Sony’s Lack of Communication After 17 Hours of PSN Outage
As the global PlayStation Network outage enters its 18th hour, fans the world over lambast Sony over its lack of status updates.
In a subsequent statement, Capcom thanked fans for remaining patient while Sony worked to restore the PlayStation Network. The developer also acknowledged that the outage resulted in the second Monster Hunter Wilds beta test being shorter than planned. As a result, Capcom is currently considering running a bonus test for PS5 users, which would make up for the 24 hours lost due to the PSN service interruption. However, these plans aren’t yet set in stone, with the company merely stating it will provide more details at a later date.
Capcom Has More Than One Reason to Hold a Bonus Monster Hunter Wilds Beta
In the meantime, the second Monster Hunter Wilds open beta is still scheduled to conclude at 9:59 ET on February 9. Holding a bonus test would allow Capcom to compensate fans for time lost during the PSN outage, but that’s not the only reason the company might consider such a move. The main goal of the ongoing beta is to stress-test Capcom’s server infrastructure—a task that may not have been completed to a satisfactory degree due to the PSN service interruption cutting the planned beta period by one-third. On the other hand, the second Monster Hunter Wilds beta was still fairly popular even without PS5 users, opening to over 225,000 concurrent players on Steam alone.
Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled for release on February 28. Therefore, if Capcom wants to hold a bonus open beta for PS5 users, it will need to commit to a concrete date for the additional test sooner rather than later, possibly as early as the week of February 10.
Sony has not yet provided any concrete details on what caused the early February 2025 PlayStation Network outage, and it’s currently unclear whether it plans to do so at all. The company said that all PlayStation Plus members will be compensated for the 24-hour PSN outage by having their subscriptions automatically extended by five days.
