Kingdom Hearts 2 Fan Turns Aqua Into A Party Member

Summary

  • One of the great undeniable truths of Kingdom Hearts is that Donald isn’t particularly helpful during combat.
  • If you’re as sick of the duck not healing you as I am, you might want to mod him out with a stronger magic user.
  • That magician is none other than Birth by Sleep’s Aqua, who has been added as a replacement for Donald by a skilled fan.

A talented Kingdom Hearts fan has created a mod for Kingdom Hearts 2 that adds Aqua as a party member instead of Donald. Maybe Sora will actually get healed for once without the infamously slow duck.

No matter if you’re a diehard Kingdom Hearts fan who can name every Keyblade without difficulty or just someone who’s dived in to see their favourite Disney worlds brought to life, there’s one universal truth we can all agree on – Donald can be totally useless at healing when you need him the most.

Kingdom Hearts 3’s Mistranslation Of “Taisetsu Na Hito” Is A Disservice To Riku

With Kingdom Hearts 3 turning six, I’m once again thinking about the game’s mistranslations and how they affect Riku.

Even though Donald is supposed to be one of the strongest magic users in Kingdom Hearts (just look at that Zettaflare), that doesn’t stop him from being incredibly slow to heal and fast to get knocked out of combat altogether. Well, as much as Sora and Goofy love him, it might be time to retire the duck for a more skilled magician.

Sorry Donald, It’s Aqua’s Turn To Join Sora’s Party

That magician is none other than Aqua, one of the three main protagonists – and arguably the main hero – of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. As pointed out by Kingdom Hearts YouTuber TheGamersJoint, talented Nexus Mods creator Kiteki created a mod for Kingdom Hearts 2 that ports Aqua over from Birth by Sleep as a replacement for Donald.

The “Aqua Ally” mod not only brings Aqua over with her own Keyblades from Birth by Sleep instead of Donald’s staffs, but it also includes different skins depending on which world she’s in. Aqua even appears in cutscenes when the mod is active, albeit with idle animations to prevent the game from crashing altogether.

I joked about Aqua acting as a more skilled replacement for Donald, but Kiteki noted in the mod’s description that she’s “as useless as Donald”, so never mind.

All of the effort that’s gone into the mod can be seen in TheGamersJoints’ video, but Kiteki plans to do much more in the future. According to the mod’s description, they’re going to add custom animations for Aqua to let her sing alongside Sora and Goofy in Atlantica and work on custom models to fit her new skins within the Disney worlds.

Just like Kiteki’s mod that brings Birth by Sleep’s Mirage Arena over to Kingdom Hearts 2, it’s an incredibly impressive creation that shows how much life there still is in the game thanks to the modding community. Here’s hoping we get Terra over Goofy at some point in the future.
