During the main quest “For Whom The Bell Tolls” in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Henry and Hans end up back in jail after getting into a fight at young Lord Semine’s wedding. While Henry is set free, Hans faces the gallows. Captain Thomas is the only person who can prove their identities, but has fallen ill due to injuries. So, Henry must act quickly to get Captain Thomas to vouch for them.
Players must find the captain and cure him of his sickness before 12 hours pass, but Henry is less than welcome in most areas he will need access to. This guide has everything players need to know to stealth their way through Trotsky Castle and complete KCD2’s For Whom The Bell Tolls quest with time to spare.

This guide will take you through the Demons of Trosky side quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
How to Complete For Whom The Bell Tolls in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
The quest starts with Henry being set free from jail and Hans waiting for his execution. Henry must complete work to make up for his crimes, but luckily, this work will be his key to the castle. First, Henry must haul three bags of coal to the coal shed for the Blacksmith. The coal shed is through the front gate and up the hill on the left.
Talk to the Blacksmith after you finish moving all the bags. The Blacksmith is talking to a guard just south of the coal shed. Henry insists on helping him with something to get access to the forgery, which is further into the castle grounds. The Blacksmith will have him make a horseshoe for Kabat in the stables. Of course, players don’t have to make the horseshoe to save time and can head toward the chapel where they are keeping Thomas. This will mainly be a stealth mission, since fighting the entire castle isn’t the best method.
Pass through the doorway that leads to the forging area and go left towards the stone steps. Two doors are visible in the next courtyard, and a guard is standing in front of one of them. Go up the wooden staircase on the right, just past the stone steps.
Follow the stairs up and around to the right and down the hallway towards a green door. Go through the green door and the door on the right side of the room. Shut doors behind you to reduce the chances of accidentally getting spotted. In the next room, there’s another green door and an open door at the back. Go through the back door and take the staircase to the next area, where a guard is blocking the next staircase.
Have Henry throw a rock from a crouching position to get the guard to move toward it and investigate. Then, quickly move up the stairs. Keep going upwards along a spiraling staircase until Henry reaches the top of the tower. There, he will find a sick, feverish Thomas and his sister.
How to Cure Thomas’s Fever
After speaking with Thomas’s sister and offering to help, she sends Henry to find the physician’s alchemy room and his notes. His notes have information on a concoction he was brewing to help Thomas. The physician’s chambers are in the Crone, another restricted area.
Carefully make your way back down to the blacksmith area. Crouch in the corner next to the wooden chest, avoiding any guards’ gaze, and rob the bag on the shelf. It has a Lockpick inside, which will come in handy later. Next, go to the door underneath the tall wooden staircase just left of the entrance across from the blacksmith area. This room is a pantry; steal the Dried Trout at the back.

These are the best potions in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 that Henry should always have on hand.
After leaving the pantry, go up the staircase to the kitchen. A guard is standing there, warning Henry that he can’t go further than the kitchen. Players will find a hungry guard in the kitchen, but giving him the Dried Trout will appease him enough to go up the stairs behind him. However, this area is still restricted, so watch out for other guards patrolling.
Go up the three flights of stairs that lead to a stone hallway. Stone steps spiral up to the right, leading to a wooden staircase. Keep moving upwards into the hallway and through the red door into a hallway with two rooms across each other. Use the door on the right to find the physician’s office. You will see the woman from the pond already snooping around inside. After a short conversation, she will leave the room, and Henry can investigate.
Pick up the physician’s journal on the shelf to find how to cure Thomas. Reading the journal will reveal Thomas needs a Fever Tonic.
How to Make Fever Tonic for Captain Thomas
Players must brew a Fever Tonic using the physician’s alchemy bench if they want to save Thomas. Thankfully, everything they need to make it is already in the room inside a locked chest. Use the Lockpick from earlier to break into the chest and pick up the required ingredients. Players need Feverfew, Elderberry, and Ginger.
Follow the steps below to make a fever tonic:
- Pour wine into the cauldron.
- Grab 3 handfuls of Feverfew and throw it into the cauldron.
- Grind the Elderberry using the motor and pestle before moving on to the next step and set it aside.
- Boil the Feverfew for two turns of the hourglass.
- Add the ground Elderberry.
- Add 2 handfuls of Ginger.
- Remove the cauldron from the heat and pour it into a phial to finish.
The last thing players must do to complete For Whom The Bell Tolls in KCD2 is to get the Fever Tonic to Thomas without being captured by guards. Players can stealth their way back to the top of the chapel or make a run for it, but as soon as they enter the room with Thomas, a cut scene starts, and they finish the quest.
