GTA 5 Players Point Out the Cringiest Things in the Game

Grand Theft Auto 5 fans are debating online about what they believe are the cringiest aspects of Rockstar’s open-world game. Given the exaggerated nature of Grand Theft Auto 5, players are spoiled for choice, but one specific aspect has caught players’ eyes.

It has been over 11 years since its release, but gamers still find plenty of new Grand Theft Auto 5 details. Rockstar titles are always known for their incredible attention to detail, with the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 also very frequently having new secrets discovered long after launch. As a result, this has set a very high bar that gamers expect future Rockstar titles to also live up to. The positive reception to 2023’s Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer has players feeling hopeful about the next installment, and the level of detail it will reach upon release.

The scope of Grand Theft Auto 6 makes it perfect for cameo appearances from past Rockstar titles, and one character in particular needs to appear.

A thread started on Reddit by user amamartin999 pointed out that Grand Theft Auto 5 protagonist Michael has an extremely posed painted portrait of his two children, Jimmy and Tracey, in his home, describing it as “cringey.” Another gamer in the thread called it “cringeworthy and over the top,” while some in the thread thought it was common practice in the U.S.A. to do this.

It’s no secret that the world of each Grand Theft Auto game is a parody of the state of the U.S.A. at the time of their release. This is always played up for comedic effect, which can ultimately result in some cringey elements appearing. However, this is a big part of the reason why the Grand Theft Auto games all feel so distinct from one another – each represents an exaggerated time capsule of America in each of their respective settings. GTA simply wouldn’t feel like GTA without these elements.

Rockstar remains hard at work on finishing Grand Theft Auto 6, which is still set for a Fall 2025 release. Gamers have waited patiently for the game, with Grand Theft Auto 5‘s initial release being back in September 2013. Beyond the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar has given very little away about the game, leading to plenty of fan theories. There are even theories about the next Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer date, which, given the approaching release window later this year, hopefully won’t be too long at this point.
