5 Best Dinosaur Movies That Are Not Part Of The Jurassic Park Franchise
Films like King Kong and 65 combine stellar CGI with exciting plots, making them perfect for dinosaur fans who’ve seen Jurassic Park too many times.
With the plot revolving around scientists and mercenaries going to find and collect the DNA of the three largest dinosaurs on an island, Jurassic World Rebirth is going to feature a huge collection of dinosaurs. Some are familiar classics that have been part of the Jurassic Saga since the start, while others are brand new to the movies.

Titanosaurus
The Largest Sauropod Seen Thus Far In The Films
- First Appearance: Jurassic World Rebirth
Emulating that same feeling of majesty as the Brachiosaurs from the original Jurassic Park, the Titanosaurus is the first new dinosaur fans have seen thanks to the trailer. Potentially the largest sauropods seen in the franchise thus far, they have large fins on their backs and heads combined with a long whip-like tail that makes them stand out from all the other longnecks in the series.
The fins on the Titanosaur are potentially a reference to the Godzilla monster of the same name, which also sported fins. Director Gareth Edwards is not only a fan of Godzilla but also started the current MonsterVerse as director of 2014’s Godzilla. Like many dinosaurs in the Jurassic Saga, it is likely a result of using different animals to fill the holes in the genetic code.

Velociraptor
These Pack Hunting Theropods Are Going Back To Horror
- First Appearance: Jurassic Park
The fast and deadly pack hunters known as Velociraptors have become as much of a poster child for Jurassic Park as the T-Rex. The last three Jurassic World movies made their Velociraptors into stars by focusing on them more as wild animals rather than bloodthirsty monsters, but since the new dinosaurs seemingly have no experience with humans, the iconic raptors may be returning to their horror roots.
Over the years, Velociraptors in the Jurassic Saga have also become notorious for being almost nothing like their real-life counterparts. Velociraptors are small, barely bigger than a turkey or a large chicken, while the book and film versions bear more of a resemblance to Deinonychus in both design and size.

Quetzalcoatlus
InGen’s Version Looks Way Different From The One In Jurassic World Dominion
- First Appearance: Jurassic World Dominion
There is no mention of the Pterosaurs in Jurassic World Rebirth being called Quetzalcoatlus, but given its massive size and design, most are assuming that is what this creature is. The characters are exploring an island to find the three largest animals on land, sea, and air to harvest DNA from their eggs, and Quetzalcoatlus is currently the largest flying reptile on record.

The dinosaurs in games trope doesn’t frequently make its way to huge open-world games, but there are a few beloved entries that fit just that.
It is worth mentioning that there are visual discrepancies in the design for Quetzalcoatlus compared to when the creatures were first introduced in Jurassic World Dominion. The simple answer could be that the filmmakers just wanted to do something different, but the new Quetzalcoatlus may be the creation of InGen’s design, whereas the one in Dominion was created by their competitor, BioSyn.
5
Dilophosaurus
The Creatures That Got Rid Of Dennis Nedry
- First Appearance: Jurassic Park
After making their terrifying debut in the first Jurassic Park, the Dilophosaurus was seemingly abandoned by the franchise for 30 years. Finally, in Jurassic World Dominion, they had a much-needed comeback and are now returning in Jurassic World Rebirth, once again suggesting that the movie is bringing back horror elements.
Some fans had held out hope that the original Dilophosaurus was only a juvenile because, in the novel and the real world, the Dilophosaurus was a massive carnivore. The ones seen in the movies are only a third of the size they are supposed to be. However, what makes up for it is their signature frills and venom-spitting, which makes them terrifying, even though there is no evidence of these dinos displaying either feature in paleontology.
4
Tyrannosaurus Rex
It’s Just Not The Jurassic Saga Without A T-Rex
- First Appearance: Jurassic Park
Considering that the Tyrannosaurus Rex is the symbol of almost every single Jurassic Saga movie and show since Steven Spielberg first established Rexy in Jurassic Park, it would be criminal not to feature at least one of them in Jurassic World Rebirth. It is not the iconic T-Rex, known as Rexy among fans, as it features a different pattern, colors, size, and a lack of the scarring that Rexy is known for.
However, fans of the original Jurassic Park novel are excited about this T-Rex. The trailer shows that Jurassic World Rebirth will feature a sequence where the T-Rex chases the heroes down a river. It was going to be a sequence in the first movie but never got made, and it is tradition that Jurassic Saga movies reuse scrapped ideas from past films.
3
Spinosaurus
The Comeback That Jurassic Park 3 Fans Deserve
- First Appearance: Jurassic Park 3
Despite a controversial battle with a T-Rex in Jurassic Park 3, the Spinosaurus is still a beloved dinosaur. In Jurassic World Rebirth, not only one, but three Spinosaurs are working in a pack to defend a Mosasaur, showing that they are still as much of a danger in the water as they are on land. The Spinosaurs have new designs in Jurassic World Rebirth, with faces closer in design to the Baryonyx and a more angular fin on their backs.

Dinosaur Games To Play While Waiting For Jurassic Park: Survival
Jurassic Park: Survival launches in 2025, but games such as Turok and Dino Crisis still provide strong dinosaur adventures.
The reason for the changes is because, in canon material, it was explained that the Spinosaurus seen in Jurassic Park 3 was a failed first attempt at hybridization. This explanation was given as a result of real-world paleontologists discovering more about Spinosaurus over the years, resulting in the Jurassic Park 3 version becoming outdated.
2
Mosasaur
A Mysterious Marine Reptile Is Working With Spinosaurs
- Mosasaurus First Appearance: Jurassic World
- Tylosaurus First Appearance: Jurassic Park: The Game
The marine reptile that seemingly becomes the characters’ objective is a Mosasaur, which is being aided by the Spinosaurus pack. It is unclear as to which member of the Mosasaur family it is, since it is smaller than the Mosasaurus from Jurassic World and features a shark-like tailfin that protrudes out of the water, whereas the Mosasaurus had a more crocodilian tail.
While it could be another case of a change in design, the shape of the snout combined with the fin could be a hint that the Mosasaur is actually a Tylosaurus. This creature was first introduced in the Jurassic Park video game, Jurassic Park: The Game, and the design seen in the trailer looks closer to how the Tylosaurus was designed in Jurassic World Evolution 2.
1
Mutated Dinosaur
The Island Was The Testing Grounds For Jurassic Park
- First Appearance: Jurassic World Rebirth
No official name has been given to the strange mutated dinosaur seen in the trailer, but fans have already nicknamed it the D-Rex. It walks on four legs and features a bulbous head with a small mouth full of sharp teeth. Since the island featured in the movie is said to be a testing facility for the original Jurassic Park, there is a chance that the mutant might be a failed older sister of Rexy.
Gareth Edwards has come out and stated that the inspiration for the mutated dinosaur is the Rancor from Star Wars and the deadly Xenomorph from the Alien franchise mixed with a T-Rex. The visual similarities to the Rancor are noticeable, but fans are interested in seeing what the Xenomorph qualities are when the movie comes out later in 2025.
