2025 has only just begun to surprise gamers with new releases and discounted sales of familiar titles, and the Epic Games Store is currently proving to remain an asset to those looking for something new to play during rainy days. Rotated out every Thursday at 11 AM CT, Epic Games Stores users typically have a week to snag one or two free games at no extra cost to add to their library. It’s become a rather reliable way to find something new for many players, even if some rotations don’t go as smoothly as expected at times.
This promotion has gone on for so long that players could regularly look forward to some freebies put out by Epic matching relevant holidays, such as Halloween or Valentine’s Day. However, February 13, 2025, seems to mark a break in this tradition, as the offerings set to be available that day don’t go well with the love-themed occasion at all. Some players may be upset that Epic is giving away the Legend Loba unlock pack from Apex Legends, but if those same people act now, they can get a surprise free game that wasn’t announced previously – Humankind.

Epic Games Store Free Game Humankind Explained
Humankind is a turn-based strategy game designed around playing through key parts of history, merging many different cultures from different time periods to build a unique empire that’s true to the player’s ideals. Players will start with Ancient Egypt, eventually moving between famous civilizations such as the Romans, Phoenicians, Celts, current-day Australians, Japanese, and many more. Good choices will influence the Fame a civilization has earned, and the one with the most Fame is deemed the winner at the end of each match.
Civilizations come with many benefits, such as buff traits, special district buildings, and emblematic units that showcase which Culture is battling out in that turn. There are also historical events and scientific breakthroughs that appear to force players to make hard-hitting choices. While there are other versions, such as the Definitive Edition that comes with every expansion and DLC pack, players will still be able to snag 15 and a half hours worth of turn-based tactical fun at no cost for a limited time. If they enjoy what’s there, then they can certainly look into purchasing the other packs to support Amplitude Studios for their hard work on such a highly recommended game, according to Humankind‘s Epic Game Store page itself.

This 4.4-star strategy game isn’t the only freebie fans can pick up, as Beyond Blue is still available on the Epic Games Store free games page until February 13. Both titles sound like something fans can sit and relax with, at least until Beyond Blue‘s story and Humankind‘s choices take a few dramatic turns. With how Humankind is a rather large title to be given away, as the promotion usually highlights lesser-known indies regularly, it certainly makes up for the fact that next week is dedicated to Apex Legends players exclusively.
Players who were hoping for more than just a surprise game giveaway may still be in luck still, however, as F1 Manager 2024 was originally announced to be released with the Loba Unlock bundle only for it to be removed shortly after. It appeared again later, only to be removed once again, and there’s no telling if it’ll be available until February 13 due to how it keeps vanishing. There have been similar instances with freebies either being announced, being switched out, or appearing and disappearing before being given away, so fans who were looking forward to F1 Manager 2024 will just have to wait and see on the day. At the very least, once Humankind and Beyond Blue are rotated out, an entirely new game will be made available to other fans, so checking back every Thursday is still worthwhile.
