It’s been a long and strange first year for Dragon’s Dogma 2, but there’s still a chance for it to turn things around. The game launched on March 22, 2024, and initially received praise from critics and players alike. However, some technical issues and the growing awareness of its barren endgame sapped a lot of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s momentum, and by the end of 2024, the game’s biggest development was that its director, Hideaki Itsuno, had left Capcom. What seemed like a dream sequel to a cult classic has left the spotlight even quicker than it arrived.
Still, it’s not all doom and gloom for Dragon’s Dogma 2. Not everyone has been turned away by the present issues, as there is a lot to like about the game. Because the first Dragon’s Dogma famously hit its stride with the release of its Dark Arisen expansion, rumors that Dragon’s Dogma 2 could receive DLC have been swirling since before DD2 even launched. In November 2024, proof of that idea seemed to appear when strings datamined from a Dragon’s Dogma 2 copy without Denuvo protection were posted and analyzed on the Dragon’s Dogma subreddit. No one was sure if those strings were teasing things to come or simply recalling cut content, but mentions of a boss rush, a “Tower of the New Moon,” and multiplayer for Dragon’s Dogma 2 sounded exciting nonetheless.
The 2024 Game Awards, an Xbox Developer Direct, and even a Capcom Spotlight have come and gone since then with no mention of Dragon’s Dogma 2, but there is still some hope for a DLC announcement soon. A new patch addressing some long-standing Pawn and monster issues was released at the end of January 2025, indicating Capcom hasn’t totally given up on the game, and more chances for DD2 DLC to appear are fast approaching. Leaks are indicating that PlayStation will host a State of Play in mid-February, and Dragon’s Dogma 2’s first anniversary is drawing near.

As the end of March coincides with the end of the prior fiscal year for Japanese companies, Capcom has already prepared Monster Hunter Wilds to launch in February 2025 to boost its 2024 Q4 numbers. More announcements, especially right after a Capcom Spotlight, might seem unnecessary in the face of such a major release, but Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t need anything flashy. The mere mention of “the future of Dragon’s Dogma 2” in a social media post is enough, just as long as Capcom takes advantage of the situation.
Why Dragon’s Dogma 2’s DLC Should Be Revealed In March 2025
Whether it’s as much as a trailer or as little as Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’s initial poster, Dragon’s Dogma 2 should let its fans know that it has more to show around the time of the game’s March 22 birthday. There are plenty of events later in the year for Dragon’s Dogma 2’s DLC to properly introduce itself, but setting an expectation will help, especially if this DLC is large enough to warrant a re-release like Dark Arisen did. Even if there’s still ambiguity about the truth of its leaks, Dragon’s Dogma 2’s DLC has the best shot of putting the game back in the spotlight if it’s addressed near its anniversary.
